Perfect rifle combo?!

Like many of us, I have worked my way through a multitude of rifles, mostly because I was curious. But in my old age I have slimmed it down to
17 Hornet
7X57
375 H&H
And that seems to suit me.

If i had drop down to one gun it would be my 16/7x65r Ferlach combination gun.

It handles beautifully, and whilst only a single shot, I shoot it really well and its accounted for phaesant, woodcock, duck and squirrels. On clays I can hold my own on the driven grouse and high phaesant targets. And with the rifle barrel I have plenty of foxes, roe, red and wild boar out to well over 200 yards.

Indeed I think it is the perfect all round gun. You could even complete a McNab with it. And yes I have seen a Salmon taken using a Grand Prix fly - waited till one jumped at the falls pool!

Was expecting my .280 to be horribly with the mod off, it was fine and no worse than .308.
To be a little more objective it is no doubt has a lot to do with rifle weight, scope setup and perhaps most critically the shooter’s default approach to holding their fowling peice.

Mine would no doubt give an Arms Training Sergeant kittens but I won’t be changing it any time soon.

IMHO the essentials are a 22 RF, a 22 CF and a 30 calibre. Just choose the chamberings that float your boat. Add a few other toys for fun if you wish and top it all off with a 12g.

Cheers
