pistol for dispatch

When I used to get callouts in the 90's I always worked on any eventuality. I took rifle, 12 bore and 357 revolver with 38 bullets. I never used the pistol once on RTA's but always carried it and on occasions used it when stalking.

For all you pistol lovers, I feel your pain. It's too bad that you can't legally purchase and shoot handguns as you wish. I really enjoy hunting with and shooting handguns. It's almost as hard a thing to master as throwing darts. I have never been really good at pistol shooting, but I can ring a 3" plate and hit a grouse, rabbit, squirrel and the like. I'm giving an open invitation to all who like the art of pistol shooting, if your ever in the Portland, Oregon area, let me know and you can shoot any of my pistols till your trigger finger bleeds. The ammo (easy to get here) is on you. However, if you really insist on having a "dispatch" pistol, a .22 LR with a 40 Gr. solid is the ticket (revolver). If you can't make your "dispatch" with that, then circle back to the rig you downed the beast with and finish it off. I'm going to oil up my Colt police positive .38 S&W in anticipation of many Stalking Directory shooting guests. I have read that the .38 S&W is was well liked in the UK. Come to think of it, a .38 S&W would make a good dispatch gun as well.

Dorset will as will Devon & Cornwall with good reason. I’m a Section 5 RFD and often sell Pistols in .357 Sig and .32ACP to FAC holders.

A Colt Woodsman would surely be better than the revolver in .22LR? And classier than a Ruger! Never liked Colt revolvers GUY OUT WEST as they torque in the hand unlike S & W revolvers.

I started with a Colt 1911, Webley Mk VI, and Colt Trooper III. Paid 120.00 UK Pounds for the 1911, serial C90475, 22.00 UK Pounds for the Webley. I soon ditched the Trooper III for a Model 27 with 6" barrel and then replaced that with a pre-Model 27 with 5" barrel.

My late mother, God rest her soul, bought me a 6 1/2" barrel Model 29-2 for my twenty-first birthday. The one in the wooden box with the blue plastic liner that cracked shortly after the blue flock wore off its corners!

Re the pistol for humane dispatch my vet pal in Germany has a .44 mag because it is well hidden in his jacket on call outs when an upset driver is close watching a deer/boar thrashing about and sometime he has to drop escaped cattle in town scenarios, he just whisks it out and it is all over in seconds.
He is a very professional amptliches tierarzt working on contract for the Baden Wurtembug state
