Plaque on dogs teeth

Our vet recommended feeding ours frozen carrot whole which seems to work very well. He gets one a day.

This works well. Also raw chicken thighs (bone in) if you have a raw fed dog. My weim gets them most days and has sparkly whites still. Coffee wood chews are also great but they do create quite a mess!

Have started using a sea weed based product that you sprinkle on to the dogs food (slightly dampened) that cleans the plaque off as they eat the food

The change is remarkable

I’ll post the brand when I find the packet

Take care of your dog's oral health. This is Skummfassner's mouth. I adopted her and in her previous life she did not get good food.

You can see the tartar on her teeth as well as a nasty growth on her gums. We were fearful that the growth could be cancer. It was removed last Tuesday and the vet thinks it is benign. The biopsy results come back next week and we will know for sure.

My dentist friend gave me a double ended dental tool and all my Spaniel's have any build up scraped off by me.
I think a lot comes from the dry food..
They have muntjac/fallow lower legs
Dry food lots of greens and deer trimmings
I agree. We use a dental scraper and just take it off periodically as an old school dentist would have done on us.

dont soak the dry biscuits, give a chew after food to help clean them, try have a brush/scrape if the dogs amenable. all about prevention before it gets too bad. Over years the tartar cause gum disease (bone loss and gum recession) and possibly tooth loss which I suspect is worse in certain breeds.
I second the not adding water to dry food.

My cocker has had awful breath for quite some time, I recently stopped adding a bit of water to her food and it’s gone.

She couldn’t care less if she has “gravy” (she sloshes water into her food bowl anyway to make her own) and it is definitely helping with oral hygiene!

We had a big vet bill for I think 7 teeth removed on an old lab, like a few folk have said bones- we get lamb carcasses off a local butcher and the dogs love them and their teeth are spotless! Also I just put a splash of water on their biscuits rather than soaking 👌
