Butchering roe buck carcass this evening. Animal presented well before the shot. Neck shot. Carcass inspection fine - nodes and pluck all normal. Hung in Landig at 4• for 6 days. Skinned animal no problem and then went to take first shoulder off and sliced through this. Not a node but looks like an abscess. Wondered if it might have been an injury maybe? Anyway cut these parts and surrounding tissue away. Rest of the animal completely fine.
Wondered what folks’ thoughts were? I’ve not come across this before. IMG_4171.webp

You can see the node on top of this abscess. Is it in front of the shoulder or between shoulder and body wall? If the rest is OK, it should be OK. But I'd trim well (about the same as you'd trim out lead...)

Very nice clear distinct pic

Thanks for sharing
Good to see various problems you can come across, I had a similar thing on a freshly shot warm Roe buck between the shoulder and ribs but that was like slow runny goo, probably due to temperature
