Just received this from APHA

APHA: Housing measures to protect poultry & captive birds from avian influenza are being extended & will be in force across England from 00:01 on 7 Nov 2022. This means that, from this time, it will be a mandatory requirement for all bird keepers across England to keep their birds housed & to follow strict biosecurity measures to limit the spread & to eradicate the disease. It's getting bad again 3.5 million turkeys out of a 11 million national flock have already been culled ,the Christmas turkey may be in short supply this year

I think most breeders are going to knock them on the head early and put them into cold storage until Christmas. Apparently they may still sell them as fresh birds as distinct from frozen.

Mutton haunch Christmas day ,Roe leg new year,s day .
Had reports of over 18 dead pigeons found on a local farm.
Not looking good for across the UK, too little to late .

funny thing I've noticed a few random dead pigeons, put it down to acorn poisoning?.I will be watching the buzzard that fed on the bird.

I drove round Abbotsbury on Friday, on the way back from the tunnel range, and only saw 7 pheasants. I guess they haven't put any/many down this year.

Bird flu will save loads of lead contamination to the countryside.

Not an issue here as last Boxing day M@S had 75% off fresh turkeys so 2 popped into my deep freeze.

he is being very strict, i went early last week. wheel wash and foot dips, told dont bring dogs in the van. glad i dont have to go for another 6 weeks now. must be awful to live with the risk
It’s not the financial side of things that get to you, in a monetary point of view, I am responsible for £300K turnover every six weeks, but in reality, I’m responsible for 130,000 lives, they may only be chickens, but they still living animals , who rely upon me for everything, food, air, water, heat, everything they need I control, I said to my boss the other week for the first time in my career, I feel helpless because I cannot control it, everything else I can control, but I can’t control AI . All I can be, is as biosecure as I possibly can be and keep my fingers crossed.

Just put what remains of my fancy poultry breeds inside in secure housing partly because of AI, but mostly because I have in the last Two weeks been hit 3 times by a fookin pine marten again 25+ birds slaughtered in the 3 raids even 3 copper black marron roosters killed and they were 6-7lb a piece all birds apart from a few bantams were left where they were killed
6ft high pens 40ftx40ft with 1" heavy duty roof nets on its nigh on impossible to keep the hooring things, out I'm actually at the point of not bothering again with birds outside in grass pens !
