Prepping head

Hi all, I've got a fallow head in my garage that was shot a few years ago, I managed to get most of the meat etc off but there is still some (very) dried on flesh on the skull which I'm now looking to clean up. What would the best way to do this be? I'm based in East Sussex so if there's anyone on here that would be able to help (for a fee) that would also be great.

I would actually be inclined to macerate the head instead, Effectively a fancy term of tossing it in water for a month.
With it being mummified there's a risk boiling it A: It takes too long and It gets damaged B: There's meat stuck inside that wont come out attracting bugs later on

Macerating it will just let all the bacteria eat the flesh up giving you a perfectly clean skull, If you plan on cutting it you can just boil it but if you want to keep it full (and not waste your time boiling) that's the most effective method.
Just keep In mind it bloody stinks though! nothing can beat the smell of rotting meat

Forgot to mention, if you can get hold of some Sorgene, once boiled and washed, give it a good covering. But be careful, it's potent stuff but takes care of any residual bacteria.

I am always wary of this and it seems like everytime wash a head I manage to get spray back in my face or eyes….

It maybe payback for other things I’ve done in my life….🤔😳😒

Did that today whilst sorting a sika, pressure washer in the brain/neck hole. Not pretty!

What you need to do before you start this process, is very similar to what I was told about going sailing. And maybe feeling a little delicate. Always eat an orange before hand, because it tastes the same coming back as it did going down.👍👍

My first head was boiled for a very long time - schoolboy error - everything on it turned to very hard leather which a chisel struggled to remove. Professional deerstalker pal then told me remove eyes (the deer’s), boil the head in water just below the coronets (they will bleach otherwise) for 15-20 mins maximum then blast with a high pressure hose - worked a treat but do keep your mouth tightly shut whilst hosing. This is a mistake you only want to make once - trust me. Don’t ask me how I know…

PS
the bowls were not for the “broth”.

It is a very, very good idea to wait for a day when SWMBO is out - the longer the better!

See post 14 🤢🤢

I don't think I've ever done a head without a bit of splashback somewhere I didn't want it! It's basically only a bit of cooked deer at the end of the day though so not the end of the world...
