Quad sticks or tripod.

Based on members experience of both quad sticks and tripods, what do you prefer ? Please comment on pros and cons of both.

I've only used a tripod once. It was OK.
Unless I'm in a highseat, all of my deer are shot off quad sticks.
Very rarely I'll go prone, in which case I rest the rifle on my backpack or a pair of mini sticks.

I like both for different circumstances, general woodland stalking around low ground the quads are unbeatable, highland/mountain where optics are being used more then I take a tripod.

Quad sticks here too using front and rear support for longer shots and as a bipod for shorter range faster shots. Viper flex are robust and take some punishment. I do have the fifth leg but seldom take it with me unless foxing

Have both, used to swear by my Primus 2’s but then I got Viper Quad sticks, contest over, quads more stable for long shots, can be used quickly as Bipods, hold the weight of the rifle when waiting for deer to stand properly ( With Fallow that can drag on) Mine have been to SA, Namibia, Scotland and I use them weekly on Fallow

I tried a tripod but found that if I was side on to a stiff breeze I just couldn't keep it steady enough to commit to pulling the trigger. The problem is that you have the pivot point, where the rifle sits in the yolk, only a short distance from the butt. If the distance from the butt to the yolk is, say, 600mm and you are shooting at 100m then for every 1mm of sideways movement at the butt end of the rifle, the point of impact will move by 167mm. (1/0.6x100). Stand in a stiff breeze and see if you can hold your body still to within 1mm.
I now use quad sticks that I made myself that have a length of canvas webbing across the front vee, this allows me to pan the rifle by a few degrees to either track a moving target or to help locate a target.

Having tried all sorts over the years, its Viperflex quads for me. You can use them as a mono for quick, close shots or as a pair etc.

Tried them all quad sticks by a country mile. Light quick and stable. Bipod clips on if needed (Spartan) but 90% of the deer I shoot are shot with viper flex

Cheap bushware Quad sticks for everything now, and a bipod for long distance stability. As others have said the sticks can be used as a quick standing bipod for close shots or four sticks for further away. Only tried a tripod once but didn’t like the uneven ground I shoot and felt awkward.

Quad sticks for me, Bushwear, in its 5th year and still almost as good as new, used a few times every week.

My mate uses a Bog Deathgrip tripod, which he uses when I take him foxing.... it's ok but not my cup of tea, if we walk I have to carry the tripod while he lugs his gun with its GRS stock and dangly bits.. his set-up looks as cool as penguin pi$$ in the garden but I think my T3X lite and sticks combo is much more practical... and I shoot a more foxes & deer than Andy .

But I am considering getting a tripod to use from the buck of the new Gator :-|

I recently asked a similar question so you may find the responses there useful also: Shooting Tripods - What do you use?

I personally went for a carbon fibre tripod. Light enough to carry easily, quick to deploy, take the weight of the rifle (hands-free) and can use them in all positions from prone, seated, up to standing and everywhere in-between. I think using the ARCA platform for tripods is a better way to go and will offer more stability.

Quad sticks. Light and easy to carry, more stable. Slower to deploy. Bit can be used as twin sticks, if you remember.

tripod. Just used on occasion for squirrels, for real stuff, I use my quad sticks. There is no contest in my opinion. Just my opinion.

I use both. When our stalking or shooting rabbits I would take the quad sticks. If I am set up in an area calling foxes I take the tripod.
My tripod is quite light and compact with the hog saddle removed and an arca plate fitted. I can probably set it up as quick as the quad sticks. I do shoot well with it but my viperflex sticks with the 5th leg are rock solid.
