RANGER v HILUX v D-MAX

I would avoid rangers - I am tainted though, bought one new, 20k miles and it washed 3 of the five bores, in and out for months as the bumbling Ford techs tried to diagnose it - I eventually refused to take it back after they tried to say I could take 2 litre bottles of coolant and just keep topping it up! They eventually pulled the cyl head off and found the head gasket had gone. Replaced the engine and then proceeded to tell me the new motor only had 1 months warranty. Wrote to Ford, no real joy.
told them to poke it, sold it (at a loss) and will never own a Ford again.
I will say I have a friend who had a humid from new and it had DPF issue after issue.

Absolutely - but my issue was not with the fault on the vehicle - it was the way Ford dealt with it. (Or didn’t as the case was)
I would also add if going for a ranger - make sure you spec it to what you need - to get something that is capable off-road (if needed) you will need to buy -
new tyres - the continentals supplied from new are poor road tyres, never mind off-road!
Under paddy protection - this is an optional extra to the tune of £1200 for all the panels.
Difflock - needs to be stipulated when ordering - cannot be retrofitted.
also make sure you under seal the sh*t out of it, mine was treated but you could still see the chassis starting to rot (not just surface corrosion) after 2 years. (It’s well documented on the forums)

I can say that after having my truck stuck in a Nissan dealership for over 6 months while they decided how to proceed with a repair i wouldn’t have anotherBest truck I had was the Isuzu.If it hadn’t been for the delayed launch of the new one I would have ordered one.Gone away from trucks altogether now got a VW T6 4motion kombi best decision I made.

Yeh agree seems the Ford is a steer we’ll clear I’m very interested in everyones views as I’m looking to buy a truck and have been thinking about all of the above but after reading the thread I am now steering towards another Hilux . Or the amarok ? either around the 64 / 5 or 6 plate .... not heard any reviews on the new Hilux 8 but sounds like if you go for a older one it seems the 7 is pretty good ???

Our Ranger (2019 Limited 3.2 Auto) has a habit of requiring an oil change (oil dilution) well before it's due a service. Service interval is 20,000 miles but it needed an oil change at 14,000. Second oil change had to be done at 34000 (service due at 40,000). Ford where distinctly unhelpful saying it was down to our driving style. I tried to argue that they were the ones who set the 20,000 mile service intervals and that there was no mention of 'driving style' in the manual. Ford just not interested (plus £220 bill for an early oil and filter change). The first and last Ford we'll be buying.

Just to add got a ranger 2017 plate never missed a beat. Just ordered a new one coming in March. I pull 3 1/2 a lot and no probs. Put decent tyres on and away you go.
devils advocate I had a navara and it was horrific in every way.
I was looking at another ranger or d max but my lease company do so many good deals on rangers abs none on Isuzu as they only sell 3-4 thousand units total per year into the Uk there deals and discounts are not good at all.
Good luck I’ve never had an issue with the ranger but others have it appears.

I've also got a 2017 ranger 3.2 wildtrak and absolutely love it so far no complaints
I’ve been looking for a base model truck and I think I’m gonna go for the hilux. With the SACS/BASC/NFU discount (19%) I was quoted £24500 for a new active including vat. I can’t find a second hand one that’s a better deal than that. Isuzu said they’d give me a free towbar
