After watching a James martin episode where he cooked razor clams I'm interested in trying to get some. Anyone have any tips on what to look out for on beaches/foreshore to indicate they may be there?
Salt! Find the holes, pour salt down them, the clams come out. They can be seen, often, for sale in the Bull Ring Food Market in Birmingham so I am sure that other good markets with a proper food market will have them. After watching a James martin episode where he cooked razor clams I'm interested in trying to get some. Haha I want the grief lol!Billingsgate Market - City of London

Save you lots of grief.........or end of Southend Pier at low tide...![]()
If they’re tough it’s because they’ve been overcooked, just like any shellfish.Ive always found them rather though, even when ordered in some top end fish restaurants
Don't overcook. Steam them open in white wine like muscles and by the time they've cooled enough to handle they're pretty much done.Ive always found them rather though, even when ordered in some top end fish restaurants
Had those in gist restaurant following by the chilli crab was unbelievable.Good easy recipe here from Rick Stein.

Rick Stein's Cornwall: Shangurro Razor Clams Recipe - Rick Stein
As seen in series two episode eleven of Rick’s Stein’s Cornwall on BBC2 – Rick’s Shangurro razor clams recipes has been adapted from a classic from his Spanish travels that celebrated crab. Garlic, onion, tomato and breadcrumbs work a treat on top of the simply cooked shellfish.www.rickstein.com
I imagine that recipe would work with almost any shell fish. And squid.Had those in gist restaurant following by the chilli crab was unbelievable.
Spring low tide, sand/mud bank. Look for small (1cm) slightly wedge shaped holes. Pour salt into hole and wait. When comes to surface grab shell and remove. After watching a James martin episode where he cooked razor clams I'm interested in trying to get some. Very true, I wouldn't venture to far to be honest but will keep my wits about meBe really careful when you’re out there, the tide will always sneak in and try to cut you off and drown you.
I don’t think that the sea really likes us.
