hi all!looking for recommendations for a good quality stalking gralloching knife?for red roe sika.time for a change!whats peoples thoughts on a quality one with good steel and which can hold an edge and take a good sharpen custom or off the shelf. what you stalkers using? any pics?cheeršŸ‘

These are excellent, gralloch and cut heads & legs off heaps of reds before the edge needs a tickle. Absolutely first class knives,

British made from Sheffield - the steel city that built an empire. And a top fella with a long family history in the business.

Danum fallow
It will do all your species of deer and more
I done a fair number of fallow with my one the last two seasons and all it has needed is a quick strop up
Feels good in the hand cuts superbly

Iā€™ve got the Fallow, Roe and the Muntjac blades and each and everyone of them hold their own on use and durability
Give Alan at Danum a call he will make you what you want
Good luck
Phil

This all comes down to budget. Sub Ā£15 - Mora all day. Sub Ā£100 - EKA Swingblade is a good choice. Over Ā£100 Casstrom or custom.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago, it's ok, but the blade is a bit short for doing the bung on a red, and a bit fat for doing smaller deers bung. So I find myself picking up one of my many mora companions in preference ( in carbon) they do everything perfectly and cost about Ā£12
They take a wicked edge, have a good grippy handle and you'd onto cry if you lose one, oh and the sheath goes through the dishwasher.

Budget?

If itā€™s a Ā£300+ then think Danum, Mitchell, Stainthorpe.

Ā£200ish snakes knives off here does some reallly nice, sharp things.

Ā£100ish Falkniven F1

Lessā€¦helle, Castrom mini hunter, Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a ton more. And yes a mora will do the job, in the same way a ford fiesta gets you to work. But some folks want an audi.

Snake knives on here - very good knives holding amazing edge for the Ā£100 -200 mark. I use one for the gralloch, but then reserve a Mora for all the bone work, and a chest saw for splitting the brisket. Just means that I only have to touch up the edge with a strop after a gralloch.

Also use a Caastrom mini hunter. Fabulous for Muntjac, but a little too short for bleeding fallow and roe and doing the back passage. Very handy for inside the abdominal cavity though :)
