Replacement tyres

I’ve previously run

BF Goodrich KO2 - awful in wet
Goodyear Duratrac- Not so good off road when part worn but decent tarmac performance.

Currently on
Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx 265/60 R18
Gained about 6mpg on tarmac, excellent wet weather performance and very good off road.

I got a great deal on Tyreleader with delivery to a local fitter.

Just put a set of davanti terratoura on my Toureg they were roughly half the price of the bfg's which I had before and Ive never really heard many good reports about grabbers so Ive given them a go, I dont go extreme off roading the car is on the road 95% of the time just picking up ect but so far so good

I've been running Falcan Wildpeake AT's on my disco, only done 9k so far on them but am quite happy with them so far,

You can buy the cheaper A/T tires, but from experience I've found these to wear out in the 10/20 thousand miles region, General Grabbers lasted me a bit longer but were just utter sh*te off road and would never waste my money on them again. To answer the question, I don't believe you can beat the BFG KO2 for all round use, last 2 sets I had made it well past the 40K mile mark with plenty of tread to spare. Buy once, Cry once.

Whilst BFG will give you 40k miles of wear it is at the expense of mediocre performance.

Absolutely lethal on wet tarmac and pretty average in a muddy field.

Better performance available from other premium brand options at a significant saving.

On my third set of Falken Wildpeaks AT3 on both a FL2 and now a dS, all in 19”. Had a very bad experience with GG AT3 loosing 4 in 18 months to sidewall/kerb damage then found the Falkens. Got a deal through the BASC on the last set. Used weekly off road with great effect - they are not MTs but do very well and were exceptional on snow!

Only lethal on the tarmac if you’ve got a heavy right foot 😜 as are most tyres A/T and M/T. All about your personal experience/preference I suppose.

I was driving on a dead straight motorway at approx. 90km/h. Very light snowfall. All of a sudden my truck breaks out and I do three full spins with a lorry coming at me. It was only good fortune that both my truck and I survived this. Anything could have happened. That was on BFG AT‘s. Never again!!!!!

Very lucky indeed. I imagine you have replaced them with full studded snow tyres then?

I was a BFG fan for years until on a wet day I turned into a bend but the truck didn't

Doing a bit of research and it appears to now be a common problem that the newer compounds don't like wet tarmac like the old ones

Cooper are a very good alternative if you can source them but General aren't bad and readily available

If you're happy with the K02's invest in another set. nothing better on the market at the moment. Just make sure they're run at the right pressure for your application. they are an LT tyre designed for heavy loads, so for most users recommended tyre pressure from truck manufacturer is too high. We see a lot of 4x4's come in complaining of traction issues all of them running AT's at 34psi and up and always unladen.

Good alternatives are davanti terratoura, renagade/patriot, yoko geo's, toyos, steer clear of coopers and generals.

Genuinely didn’t experience grip failure in any heavy acceleration or “making progress “.

I found the KO2s loved to provide regular surprises on roundabouts and sharp corners at low speed.

I tend to find the standard response from happy BFG KO2 owners is that they’ve never run anything else and are hypnotised by the 40k mileage lifespan.

If they opted to trysomething else from Cooper, Yokohama, Toyo, Goodyear or Falken you could get a better performing tyre per £ spent and be able to spend the money you save on a days stalking.

Or just run your KO2’s until 50% worn, sell them for £500 and still have your day stalking 👍 provided your not killed by their bad performance on a roundabout before you get there 🤣

In all seriousness it’s each to their own. They work for me and I like them for what I do.

I put Toyo AT onto my work hilux in the summer and so far they have been pretty decent.

Put Falken MT on a work ranger at the end of the summer and they have been decent too.

Also have a couple pickups on BFG MTs and ATs and they are decent

Wouldn’t say any are better than the others and I went Toyo because BFG were about twice the price
