Rifle sling

Trying to dump rubbish out of my shooting shed and came across this sling.
Was this an old time method of closing the ends?

Not really "old time".
The Harkila rifle sling I have has the option to close with those fixings or with a leather thong, and I'm sure there are others similar on the market.

Why?

I have a couple of P-H leather slings, and they both have buckles.
I don't think it was an exclusive method for PH, I have one that uses these fixings and another with buckles as with yours, perhaps it was a certain grade , totally agree that its too good to bin

I have a canvas sling with those studs on my Anschutz .22Hornet, it rubbed the woodwork on the forend pretty raw with the previous owner. I've refinished the walnut stock and taped over the brass studs to stop a repeat, it's a good, strong sling.

To the bin was another way of asking if anyone wanted it (FI) without falling foul of the SD rules on selling.

Ps.
Having a tidy up and a load of stuff will be going up to the Rifle club.
I keep exceeding my quota for selling stuff in Classifieds then get a red message telling me how long I have to wait before I can advertise again.
