Im in the process of purchasing a rifle with what I think is a McMillan stock. Im attaching a pic of a similar style.
Issue being is a find it too low and too short. Butt pad appears glued on as well.
Has anyone experienced the same? I lm wondering what options I might have other than replacing it.
I have a friend who is an rfd and often carries out stock alterations. I have seen his adjustable comb raiser and all of his work is excellent. Drawback possible for you is he is in Cambridgeshire. DM me should you want his contact details.
Look for another stock that has the cheek riser and lop built into it.
Buying a stock that doesn't work for you and then trying to alter it is pain you don't need.
Have a think about smaller objective lensed scope and lower rings to get your whole line of sight much closer to the bore.
I run a 3-9x36 on my 243. I did have a 4-12x50, and I really have not noticed any difference and can’t think of any deer that I haven’t taken because of the scope.
....good advice, but it's way too short for me as well!
I've seen comb raiser, just not sure it they're anygood though. Length of pull will require cutting the old pad off I feel. ...Just wondering what other have done in similar situation.
If you heat a putty knife with a hot air gun or hair dryer you can break the glue bond holding the pad to the stock.I then replaced the pad with a 32mm cervelatti pad, works fine.
