Rifle suggestions please - specifically double stack detachable magazine

Recon if you are worried about top loading you are shooting a lot of animals at one time or? Would a ten shot mag with a second in the pocket be an alternative? I mean so one does not need to put rounds in from the top as 5 doesn't seem enough.
My suggestion would be a T3 in 7-08, AICS mag system. Not top loadable but option of flush fitting 3 shot mag or very reliable 5 shot metal mag or 8 shot or 10 shot or 12 shot magazines available. 7x64 is a lovely cartridge which might be better off in a drop plate mag which can be top loaded. You might shoot faster with a larger mag without top loading in-between.

Recently purchased a sako 85, and was worried about the rare ejection issue where they go up into the scope. Simply ask the RFD to stick an empty case in and eject it before you buy. Apparently the issue was on early 85 action's.
I'm certainly not disappointed!

If only there was a reasonably priced carbon fibre stock option for the Sako 75…

Wait a minute!…
Isn’t someone selling a Kroseg Precision adjustable stock for the Action 3…

The 75 is a much better platform than the 85
i am with you on the double stack top loader
Having spent the day guiding a lady doctor carrying her sako 75 the prospect of constantly removing rounds from the chamber and having to fee them into a detached magazine for the 50th occasion would have been a major pain

As it was, extract, push down, close bolt. Cake

We will be doing a line of semi customs this year all on 75s

Stocks of choice
Kroseg, KKC, OEM walnut, synth
McMillan will follow when we have the CNC inlets set up

505 isn’t double stack mag I don’t think.

Since I started this post, I ended up buying a Sako 75 from Ed, managed to pick up a McMillan stock for it, and I’m just in the process of converting the detachable magazine to a floorplate as I’m not that keen on how easily the magazine detaches.

Pondering a Kroseg stock, but very happy with the McMillan for the time being.

Rem 700 can be fettled to run both aics mags and the aw mags so you’d have the choice of either

Then if you simply can’t live with the 700 action even if fettled then all your stuff will work with whichever custom action you choose from the heaps of 700 profile actions

I have no idea what people have against the 85. The magazine catch issue of 75 was dealt with as the 85’s magazine has to be lightly pressed in before the latch can be released.

The ejection issues of the 85 are recorded as being long action calibre.

I’m an 85 owner with aftermarket barrel fitted my @Ronin in 6mm creedmoor. It’s a cracking rifle.

I'm totally biased. I have four Sako 85s, XS and S actions. All use Optilock mounts chosen by the method recommended på Sako. Never had a problem with the ejection. The magazines are double-stack, top loadable steel ones. The removal method of pressing the mag upwards before working the catch takes a few seconds to master. IMHO one of the best magazines out there.

Cheers

An old thread but I will also continue it…

I have a SAKO 85 in medium action (.270” WIN), with Optilocks, and a Schmitt and Bender Klassic. The necks are always dinted, but as I don’t reload it really doesn’t fuss me. I much prefer the flush fit double stack magazine and very positive semi-controlled feed.

Is there not a way to reshape the neck or is it weakened?

Tikka CTR 7mm08 has detachable double stack mag, lots of aftermarket sticks and chassis.

You can’t top load the CTR magazine.

I suspect the dented necks are from impacting on the scope. Some mounting options and scopes cause the cases to bounce back into the ejection port. This is the issue people refer to.

As for the necks, the dent will easily be punched out when running through the dies.
