Roe Rut 2023

And it’s still not kicked off  Ten roe does seen and 2 travelling mature bucks - one holding a doe but not chasing. Indeed, very quiet out there and then the rain started again and it was time to go home with the poorer mature buck in the deer box in the back😃
We only seen two does when we were out and neither all that keen in the calls, pretty unusual.
Think we will try again next week probably we could of went out yesterday (muccccch better weather) but considering we shot one the night before I wasn't terribly pressed.

Plus the buck I shot was nice enough for myself, busy boiling that for now.

My guide in SW Scotland says still a bit early up with him, few young bucks having a go but it'll be end of july, 1st week in August, before it kicks off.

Drove up and down M5 to Taunton yesterday didn't see a roe. Also appear to have vanished around me occasionally seeing solitary roe on thermal when out foxing. Vast acreage of maize is not helping. Also large amount of v long grass still uncut. Cold and wet. Last year on 24th videoed a buck chasing a doe so we are in the correct time zone.

Forest of Bowland - buck chasing a doe last Tuesday. Buck ranging around mid morning yesterday, after that colder weather with the heavy rain I assume today's warmer weather will help get things back underway
Last night saw one doe on it's own then called a yearling in, was too dark but think it was a buck

Difficult conditions last night, cold wind, 11’C but felt colder.

Tried calling a single buck who showed little interest.

Stalked on into a scattered group but didn’t bother with the call and took a young cull buck.

Hopefully the temperature and overall conditions improve.

Out last night until 2.30 am. Wheat had been cut. Saw a few roe one pair and a couple of bucks. No chasing or movement. Most couched down. It was quite cold sub 10 c felt like late September. Weather gone yuk but warmer let's see what next weekend brings.

Rut is now starting to kick off in Aberdeenshire. Saw some young bucks fighting along the road from the house last night.

Saw a nice mature buck limping badly last night but wouldn’t come to the call and looked like he had taken a hiding and was hobbling through the neighbours barley park clearly needing to rest up, the call brought in a mature buck which was following a doe to the call and all the does I’m seeing now have bucks with them.

Starting to see bucks out with does in the middle of the afternoon and chasing for the last two days.
