Roe Rut 2023

I did just that to the place where I shot 5 in previous outings, I waited for 5hours but saw nothing, I just do notunderstand what has happened to them!

Is there a good population of roe around you for infill? I tend to leave the areas that I know are bankers for calling in the rut from the beginning of the roe buck season. I have it in my head that at the beginning of the roe buck season I fly round and mop up the cull bucks that Ive noticed at the end of the doe season in those harder areas knowing that those easy to call areas are a doddle to cover in the peak 3 weeks of the rut.

Saw a buck having a chase in Dumfriesshire a couple of days ago in mid afternoon.

East Perthshire in the high hills this weekend, of the 8 bucks we culled only 2 were with does. They were not chasing, just feeding or lying up. 2 bucks came into the Buttolo, 3 took no notice of it.

I have been watching a few bucks up on the back fell1000- 1300 ft up for the last few weeks who have become a lot less cautious mind you they can still see you from 3-4 hundred yards they just aren’t as keen to move

Had clients out on Saturday evening, successfully called in two bucks chasing does so seems to be on in Oxfordshire.

Was in-between Langholm and teviot head this weekend , does with young a plenty ,

Didn't see one Buck , no response from the buttalo either , the weather was not great either, too wet

Took a walk this evening with the youngest to see if we could get a reaction from the Buttolo. A huge number of Doe’s and three bucks all reacting to the Buttolo. One buck came into 30 yards so certainly activity here. Another buck was chasing another couple of Doe’s in another field.

There is a distinct lack of bucks this year on my ground at least. But the doe population seems to have exploded.

Partner saw a buck chasing a doe on Saturday morning. I have not seen a thing. Out till 1.30am last night only saw 6 roe on several hundred acres. Buck and doe in one field as they were last week. Saw one group of 3 last night otherwise all singles.

Shot this buck tonight in a wheat field but he was showing no interest in either the Clausen RoeDeerCall Pro or the buttallo.

Out last evening in South Yorkshire. Shot a big mature buck(45lb carcass weight) questing around. He showed no reaction to the call and was absolutely full of fat around the kidneys so not rutting here yet.

Very much on in Hampshire this morning. Two poor bucks taken within about 30 minutes of each other, both chasing separate does. A couple of peeps on the buttalo and in they steamed. Sure woke me up!
