Roe rut possibly starting?

Kind of seems like a few does have went into season, but there's still a very very large majority that haven't.

We seen genuine rutting last night but it was the only one we seen off our ground, on our ground there was a buck attended too by a doe but that's the only one we've really seen (plus we spooked them, so couldn't actually tell If anything was going on)

Big boy that we seen the night before yesterday wasn't there yesterday evening, despite us seeing two does in that area that same night (and probably plenty more) though that might be down to the unusual wind shift.

Going out tonight in Aberdeenshire for a listen and a look mainly, keen to see what's about. As a beginner am I better looking in open woodland, or field edges? Hoping to spot some donuts and look for other signs.

The deer I most admire and find challenging is Sika. Especially in Scotland, in old Forest, or even more challenging commercial forest. I have shot and managed them (or tried to manage them) for 38 years. I also had an area near Dorchester some years back, the permission belonged to my fathers cousin. Stalking them was far easier than the ones in Scotland.
They are also my favourite venison, followed by Fallow.

I find Roe fairly easy at times, to stalk, but the most attractive deer.

Ideal conditions in S Glos hot, overcast and muggy

I have checked my diaries. I have watched roe rutting hard from 22nd July in previous years.
Might be worth a look and call over the weekend.

I saw two bucks scenting the air last night. Both in the vicinity of a doe. I don't think it's far away here now, to be honest. We have a wheat crop almost ready to be harvested in the same field the bucks were in, and I'm hoping it comes off this week as I have a seat ideally placed on the margins

Buck closely following a doe in Midlothian this morning but no attempt at any more than that (as far as I could see as they were in and out of a field of osts.

Out having a look round last night, couldn't see my best buck but plenty of Fallow bucks on his normal patch of wild bird food/cover. Lots of Fallow in smallish groups ( why can't they be like that all the time).Took a look along the river, fairly dense cover now the river has dried up and saw Roe. A nice young six point buck, very small head along with a doe and kid, looks like he's sorted. Can't get to many likely Roe places until some crops are harvested, but wouldn't be surprised if the bigger bucks were already sorted with does.

Wind has switched over to the east and a fresh edge this morning.
Plenty Roe deer activity with bucks in close company with does but no real interest in either the Clausen Roe Pro or Buttallo.
Once things warm up again it should pick up.
Still managed to take a couple of bucks, one with a broken antler and the other with a wrecked foot.

Out this morning in Glasgow saw 3 bucks getting dragged about with does two on my ground the other on the motorway banking's. That was early didn't stay long shot one by 5 am and straight hame to bed.

Could be getting going. Having read this thread, I thought I would take a look.

I was out at about 7.30 this morning watching a deer I had spotted on thermal. It was annoyingly behind a bush, and not identifiable as male or female, so I was just watching and messing with my scope trying to get a sharper picture when suddenly a roebuck walked into my scope on the nearside of the bush and stood still broadside on. So I shot him and the doe behind the bush got up and left. I think he had been following her.

I have shot the male partner of a courting couple within 10 yards of that spot at least 3 ruts in a row. Its a nice spot at the bottom of a valley and at the edge of a wood, with a clear floor to lie on and bushes to hide behind. I think its a logical resting spot when courting.

Could be he was just following her not actively courting. He was a nice big buck but his antlers, while representative, were young. He was Beta not Chad. He may have just got excited too early. I will probably try the spot again in the first days of August and see if she brings another suitor there.

Watched a buck relentlessly chasing a doe at full tilt this morning. In between bouts of activity she would lay down to recover whilst the buck stood some 15-20 metres away.

Early this evening we watched a lovely big 6 pointer tracking a doe. I called in 3 bucks whilst on a dog walk. One came in from 200+ yds to about 20 yds.
