Roosting Feral pigeon control with artificial light.

I personally think DEFRA cocked up writing GL42.
GL04 Specifically mentioned that night shooting of birds on the GL was prohibited with exception of feral's.

GL42 now only states the species that may be controlled, and the means allowed.

If you were new to pest control, not having read GL04 now withdrawn, and studied both the WCSA and GL42, most I feel would go with the idea that feral (and all on GL42 )can be controlled at night with sighting devices as nowhere within GL42 prohibits this?

Not sure how a judge would decipher it..

I’m still wondering how anyone can kill a bird with a sighting device? The controlling is done by the firearm.

So we aren't allowed to control them in Scotland at night then. This is probably the best method to use.
Like all four nations, Scotland has its own general licences and they're slightly different to those in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Most of the quotes in this thread are from England's GLs.

Just had an E mail Re shooting feral pigeons using artificial illumination, torches, night vision or thermal it is NOT allowed under the current GL with the exception you may apply for a specific licence if applicable or a special case

Thats it 100% 🙄 straight from the horses mouth so to speak

Stick the email up mate

This is exactly the type of idiocy that needs to be roundly ignored en- masse.

Straight from defra via the NPTA I approached them on Wednesday at a meeting in Reigate and today they got the reply will see if In can get as a picIMG_6055.webp

So one day it was legal and the next it is not. How pathetic, what is the , if any, reasoning behind this?

I’m not sure if they just dropped a clanger or meant to SD, hopefully if they are aware of it now, it can be altered in march 25 when i think a review is on the cards, but I expect it is written in sand waiting for the Tide to come in 🙄 as normal

Well I’ve just put in for two separate licences under hygeine and health and safety on two different sites
We shall see ( don’t hold your breath) 🤣🤣🤣
