Roosting Feral pigeon control with artificial light.

Hi Conor
Thanks I’ve done a few licensing applications with DEFRA / NE
I’m pretty sure I’ve got some old licences granted to me from the previous fiasco on ferals, I’ll see if I can find them on my old pooter, at the least I will be able to see any variations from old to new

Cheers 👍

Thanks Phil, do let me know how you get on.

@Greenmist yes returning the exemptions to the next renewal (1 Jan 2026) of the relevant England general licences should be possible.

Hi All

I emailed Nature Scot yesterday regarding the situation in Scotland. Here is the main part of the reply.

"There are no issues with using either illumination or night vision or thermal devices if they afford a more successful outcome in relation to animal welfare" Definitely no change in Scotland.

Alan
Thanks Alan, it would be most helpful if you could forward that email to me at conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk as I have asked colleagues to contact NatureScot about the wording of the relevant Scotland general licences for permitted feral pigeon control measures, mindful that the wording could be updated for the renewals due on 1 January 2025.

BASC Scotland has been in discussion with NatureScot about this and the relevant 2025 Scotland general licences will have the wording "In the case of Feral pigeon, Columba livia, shooting with the aid of any device for illuminating a target or any device for night shooting".

The wording is in place for the new license.
I got notification with my Larsen trap renewal.

Interestingly I am notifying the Scottish ministers in writing of keeping magpies in my trap and definitely not registering as everyone seems to say you have to do.
