Looking for recommendations of what is the best method to attract deer to a safe place for shooting e.g do salt licks work or game feeders?

Have a lot of roe in an area where I need to attract them away from footpaths into the middle of the land where it is safe to shoot them from a high seat

thanks for any advice in advance

Never baited deer but I would imagine peanuts would be a magnet for squirrels. Could be an expensive venture.

I have used aniseed laced salt licks with reasonable success. They last a reasonable length of time - as in several weeks.

Peanuts will gone in a very short while.

Salt licks are waste of time here. I have assumed there is sufficient salt on the vegetation from the sea air.

They soon get wise if you feed them at “bait stations” plus there are issues with disease transmission (various threads on here from our resident vets).

Find out if the landowner is getting any grants for woodland deer prevention.SSSI etc
As baiting to attract deer is a no . If found out the land owner might have to pay the grant back in full

They seem to love knocking over the pheasant feeders for the wheat.
I know one shooter that has made deer feeders out of the really large steel oil drums, filled with wheat.

Try molasses lick blocks, if you can get them over there.

This is like crack to Whitetail, they seem to prefer to all the other minerals/salt I have tried. May work for Roe, used to be able to get it in the Uk , not sure if you still can. IMG_0013.webp

Never had any success with any licks for Roe
Put several sorts out, the Roe make new tracks around them. My lowland Reds however loved rocksalt blocks.

I think someone has said but you aren't allowed to feed deer on sssi ground and you aren't allowed to plant anything to attract deer either. I would definitely check with the land owner first

Can you not just work around the footpaths?

The trouble with this stuff is keeping the wind and rain off the lines you make on the glass table.

Anyway, if there’s that many roe can you not stalk and shoot some away from paths?
