Anybody out there used salt licks ? do they work ? I have a bit of ground with Reds I was hoping to draw them in saw a lot on neighboring ground .If they do work any particular make ? thanks

There was a salt lick/tb thread not so long ago.

Certainly works well on Fallow. In the past I have used the blocks from Bushwear. They smell of aniseed and seem to work well.

someone has mentioned to use cattle licks ?

I’ve been using the Pink Himalayan horse licks for a number of years, they come with a hole and decent length of rope to fix up..... usually ( if it’s not going to tip it down shortly) I pour a generous amount of liquid molasses over the block and place a large log or similar underneath to catch drips and become soaked.
It works a treat on Fallow and can be smelt for quite some distance.

Tim 243 told me there some recent threads so I looked back at them said road salt is Toxic to deer ? Just want to draw them into my field give them a lead implant !

Deer licks

Hi, Has anyone used sheep / cattle mineral and molasses licks with any great success on deer? Things like lifeline ewe and lamb or stowag mineral lick? Thx in advance

Had one in place since late April. Roe have shown interest but muntjac not in the slightest. Foxes like it too.

Not as interesting as the theory's about transient deer passing on TB and using a salt lick

They definitely work. I have a friend in the US that uses them to get moose in there garden.

My experience is the same. We put a Bushwear salt block on a stump. Roe are now nightly visitors to the block, but muntjac have ignored it completely.
