Save Scottish Salmon

Done. I can't believe they are even considering this. David

Its not being considered, its actually already done. The nets have been operating here for the last two seasons and this years haul was around 3000 fush, and is probably the reason we had a crap run with the river being doon to the bare bones.Wanabe King Salmond even gave them a grant to get started again.A pure disgrace.

Guys,

These nets men are doing nothing wrong, they are merely carrying out the trade their forefathers have always done. They operate either by Charter or Licence. In the past few years they have reduced their catch because there was no demand.

The only way you can "stop" them is to buy them out. Let's see who will cough up the money.

Joe public sees Salmon as the cheap supermarket protein, "fresh" or smoked.

Your high price Wild or Organic Salmon is all net caught. This is the stuff that actually tastes Good and us what you want to eat!

Buying out the nets has worked on some rivers but it's putting people out of a historical living and isn't cheap.

Boot on the other foot. Why should people make a living out of taking/killing/harvesting wild deer?

Done, proud to have signed.

Stan, deer are sustainably managed and populations are healthy or increasing, the opposite is true of wild salmon.

Your history argument is BS.

We used shoot capercaillie and black grouse, collect eagles eggs, dog fighting and bear baiting entertained thousands. Just because we used to do something it doesn't make it right. Our salmon stocks are in decline all the way up Britain's west coast, many east coast rivers are not doing much better. I have coughed up to buy out netsmen, but why should I when they are to blame for wrecking a national treasure that we should hand on to future generations. They should have their charters and licences revoked. f**k them.

Isn`t this just a cash battle between net license holders and rod license holders,?

from what I gather, they are ending a voluntery ban because they cannot extend the season until later in the year when fish numbers rise.

Shouldn`t the petition be to allow them to net later and leave the early part of the season alone,?

If you are going to use a comparison please use a valid one.Research numbers of both species in this era and you should be able to see why that question shouldnt need to be asked.

No - there is a conflict of interests as both groups target plummeting wild salmon stocks. To be fair to game anglers they are returning about 80% of fish caught, many rivers are returning 90-100%. Anglers are often engaged in efforts to restore our rivers with many directly supporting their local River Trusts, supporting Fisheries Consultatives and other river conservation initiatives. Netters take the lot and put nothing back.

Signed .

I have a friend who rears salmon whose fish are so clean he supplies the Duke of Argyle to restock his rivers.

Seems like taking sand to the dessert but these fish are reared in sterile tanks and are used to introduce pure uninfected salmon into areas which need help.

So, we are supposed to boycott farmed salmon. Now some want to ban catching Wild salmon. Where are we supposed to get salmon from to eat?
