Can't fault ya pal Im only jealous. I seriously beginning to think there's something up with me. For first time in life I've got a bit of spare cash all to m myself, and lots of things I can afford I'd like but just can't bring myself to spend it. Then I get angry at myself but still don't like spending. It's annoying.

Many of us are in the same mould. My old neighbour said to me, "It's a job to change your pattern in life when you get to my age". He had always had to be frugal, and found it difficult to spend some dosh to make his life easier, despite selling off half his garden for a king's ransom.
I'm the same. Struggled to make ends meet for years, earned a pound and saved 50p to get a float behind me... mother-in-law told me "There's no pockets in a shroud"... I'm always thinking of the "Rainy day"

if you’re looking for features, the latest trends in turrets/reticles and massive magnification (at inevitable optical clarity compromise) range, S&B is not for you.

If you’d rather put your money towards total rugged reliability (both mechanical and optical), high quality glass (yes some of their Klassic models use more basic coatings, but are still superior to 95% of other scopes on the market. The recent release have more high tech coatings) practical and usable magnification, simple and classic aesthetics then IMO S&B are genuinely great value for money. They are the ultimate “buy once cry once” scope.

If you’re found to flip the scope when the next digital invocation in rifle scopes come in, they’re probably not the scope for you. And also - on warranty - no matter how good the terms are they don’t help if the scope fails on a hunt. Much better to not have it fail in the first place, and a S&B gives you the best chance of not having a failure.

I’ve got a Summit, a 3-12 and a 6x42 Klassik and would not swap them for anything

Last remnants of a bygone era, when things were made to last a lifetime and only had features that really mattered in the field.
Schmidt & Bender were the last of the big five that still made classic 8×56 and 6×42 gear and now even they discontinued them as far as I'm aware.

This is distressing, I didn’t realise that and there’s certainly no mention of it on their website

4 of the 6 Guns Ive ever owned were s/h, most of the gear Ive ever bought was "budget" or on sale. My last big purchase, at full retail, besides my first brand new O/U and my Tikka .308, was a PSE Evolution stock. That decision between when I first started looking at their site took about 6ish months to placing an order.

Now I had handled a PSE E-Tac many years ago and always had in my mind that Id like to stock my Tikka with one. I trawled the FS section here at the same time, at the time for an E-lite, but between customs and taxes it was close to buying new anyways. The don't come up FS very often here in ROI.

My current optics were brand new yes, but everything from Binos, LRF and Scopes were bought on sale, and Im not talking about a 10% off sale.

I too find it hard to buy nice things at full rrp for my one and only hobby.

Which was kind of why I started this thread, and its not just S&B, unless you go fixed power, the entry level into most brand now is what mid priced use to be.

My advice - do what you want and spend what you can afford or justify. If you want to pay £650 for a digital scope that will allow you to shoot at night (foxes etc) and gives you the edge on first and last light then go for it. If you want to spend £3k on good quality glass then again crack on. There are way to many people who seem to think that their opinion is the only one- we are all different, use different kit. The thing we seem to be lacking is a level of respect for different opinions.

I have a few scopes and all are good for different things. I have a Swarovski Z6I on QD mounts, Alpex 4K on QDs and these 2 go on or off the 6.5 Creed. I have a Pulsar XM50 on the .243 (mainly for foxing) and a Zulus ZHD 520 on the .17 HMR.

When it comes to equipment, mostly, no 2 fellas will have the same setup.

If you can take quarry, any quary, with "insert rifle/cal here" topped off with "insert optic" here and gralloch with "insert brand here" then thats whats important.

I wouldn't knock a fella for stalking with a Morakniv no more than Id slag someone for buying an Emberleaf.

As an example I fox with a fella who uses a CZ 452 Varmint topped with a Hawke 3-9x50.
I use a Tikka T3 topped with a Vortex PST Gen II. He shoots lights out with the CZ, its about 15 ish years old, I think, at this stage and the Hawke scope is an older Hawke. Its a great setup, could he "upgrade" sure, he doesnt want to as he sees no need.

My comments werent aimed at you in any way mate Im all for liking certain things more then others but it gets a bit preachy when people say things that they dont like are "crap" etc.

I personally would never put a sub £500 (new) thermal scope on a CF rifle as I dont think the image quality is where it needs to be ..but I wouldnt say that the scopes are crap and no one should do it.

We all like different things and you summed it up perfectly above. I shoot a 6.5 creed ...so what do I know
