scope price.

I used to have a leupold vx3 and to be honest was very happy with it.....right up to the point i compared it with a mates zeiss on a herd of red last light in April. The zeiss could spot the pricketts easily whereas it was next to impossible with the leupold in that light. Now have a Z6i and call me a snob if you want but would never go back to a mid range scope now ive used one of the best. Alls good in good conditions but when the light is difficult the top end scopes show where the money goes.

The challenge of being a stalker is not solved by the price tag of your glass. Having said that put the best glass on your rifle you can afford but is your eyes are not at least 20/20 then get your fixed first with the cash because comparably I will see better through a £200 scope with my 20/10 vision that the average guy with 20/20 will see through the most expensive comparable product.

Sorry if that hurts because you're eyes aren't so good but it's the truth. Get them eyes fixed before you spend £2k on glass!!!

magic that's why this is on im not interested in a rolls of a scope just 1 that can do the job
Now sit back and watch the scope-bling junkies start howling about just how fabulous their £1000+ glittery toys are.

It ocurred to me that the difference between a scope snob and a fashionista in a shoe store was...precisely nothing. 'Oh my, this Swarovski/these Manolo Blahniks are *simply* ravishing...' 'I wouldn't be seen *dead* without my Zeiss/Stuart Weitzmans, darling'... 'oh well, you*could* use Leupold/John Lewis, but I find the build quality just *so* different...' ;)

no offence to any 1 i have put silver medal and old by there best roe in to the butchers and he still takes the same for doing it in, at the end o the day a trophy to me is for hanging the dog lead on,

My point was at the end of the day those deer would still be alive if it was not for the high end scopes.

I am not going to convince you or anyone else that is convinced that their £200 is as good so no point in trying :stir:

I don't think anyone is denying top end scopes aren't better, I think they are trying to say they are not nescesarily worth the price tag, or difference in price tag... Ultimately there is nothin wrong with 200 quid scopes...

Bang on and there are some cheap items out there but i shoot a sauer because i wanted it for posing it has culled alot but no more than my cheap Tikka. I have a swaro scope vari and it is bright and has help cull a lot but no more than my cheap meopta. Would i swap them back NO CHANCE LOL.

+1

Bob, your entitled to your opinion but when you come out and trash leuplolds and night force and then promote an old nikko it holds no water. Just say that you have good experience with that particular scope as you obviously do not have a lot of experience with a NF or leupold scopes or you would not make that claim.

I had a couple of good nikko gold crowns 6 x 40s when starting out and while they held their zero, were waterproof etc the Vari iii 3's and Vx 3's and NF scope i have now are far superior. I'm not dissing the nikko though as a $40 scope it did its job.

The focus ring and lock nut on the old leupolds work just fine. If you can't focus a leupold scope i'd give the game away.

I have a Burris Fullfield 4.5-14x42 on my 22 rf and its a nice scope, the glass is really clear and bright. I havent tried it on any of my centre fires but im pretty sure it would do the job and it was a pretty good buy, not sure how much they are new here now. I also had a meopta meopro 4-12x50 and this was a great scope, think you can get them new for around £375 but i really rated the glass. Only sold it as i got offered a good deal on another swarovski:oops:

Hi Ms.

I have had 2 NF scopes over the years and i have also had leupold's, Khales swarovski Schmidt und bender Zeiss meopta Bushnell and many other cheaper tubes so i have been around a bit and used a few scopes in my time.if i had just kept my cash in my pocket and not swapped scopes so much i may have more costly scopes on my rifles, but would the quality be better ?.

I have now settled down on Zeiss scopes, for me they are good value for my money, there is no doubt if i was of higher income i may have a new Z6i or something like that but im not and as mentioned by ed earlier quality levels out at a price for some and for others the price tag does not matter.

each to there own but a NAME seems to what you pay for above a certain amount of money and no matter whether i think its total crud if you like it you will buy it.needless to say this could go on and on and on,

you pays your money if you have blinkers on when your shopping or not ;)

bob.

I think the OP should pay as much as you can afford, but if you can have a look through some glass and decide what you think is the correct scope for your needs, anymore than that is a bonus,

good luck.

There's nothing to convince people of though, I drive a scrapped out puggy 306 td that does everything I need a car to do. If you're happy with the product that all that's important. I won't pretend that a top of the range brand new range rover isn't better but then again I won't pretent that I could afford one either.

Like I said ealier with my 20/10 eyesight and a 'good' scope I see better than someone with average eyesight and the finest scope money can buy

And, ultimately, no amount of expensive glass ware will make you a better shot - I can think of precisely no shots in my life that I missed because of scope quality.

Hi all - so is the answer to the thread yes? The lad asked if some of the cheaper end scopes were ok to stalk with! there seems to be a lot of arguing in agreement. Not everyone can justify a fortune, so its a good thread. I used to do a lot of mountan biking back in the day, and they were always "improving, however I am now overweight and older, so would I be able to take it up easily now with the bet avalable bike? Are scopes the same, surely there is only so much that can be imptoved.

I own a zies 6x42 and a Hako 4X40, had a vortex on old rifle, and had to trade a S&B in to upgrade rifle, all good scopes IMO, ziess the best again IMO - will I need anything else - probably not

I know two head stalkers from the north west of Scotland who both swear by, and not at, their Meopta scopes.

But for value for money can you beat a fixed power 8x56, either S&B or Swarovski? Unless perhaps it's the Meopta 7x50?? All very good in low light.

In marketing, all marketing of products from trainers to treacle, producers and shops provide the public with three options: 1/ the basic model, 2/ the mid range (which most people buy) then 3/ the really stupidly expensive range. They have to produce this last one as there is always a market for the most up to date, sooper dooper, earschplittinloudenboomer, crem de la crem sparkly glass. People will pay a fortune for this last one, just to have "the best".

It is up to the individual what they buy, and thank goodness we are not all the same!

Simon
