If that were true everyone who stalks would have one
Not everyone wants one.Wilts follows the law and everyone that I know who has asked for one has got it
If that were true everyone who stalks would have one
now lets be honest here , poeple want pistols because they are banned simple as that !!!
Norfolk told me i couldnt have one , i proved good reason to have one , got it and used it twice and sold it now got a .410 (much better tool for the job)
do as you please and waste your money if you wish !!

Sorry, but I'm going to delete any more comments like that.
Why does this subject always have to go this way? The law is the law. If you apply for a handgun for humane dispatch and can demonstrate good reason to the satisfaction of your particular police force (or in some cases to a court) then you will get one. If you apply and cannot demonstrate good reason you will not and you will have wasted time and money. End of story.
Making sweeping statements about what you think the motives of fellow stalkers are for applying for a handgun for humane dispatch is as utterly pointless as condemning another stalker's choice of rifle, of vehicle, of equipment, of how many sugars they have in their tea. Everyone's requirements are different... some stalkers rifles will take one deer a year, others hundreds.... some handguns may dispatch one animal a year... some dozens. It does deer stalking no credit on here to start calling out fellow stalkers based on their own choices.
Good reason is good reason as judged by the police force in question or a court of law... not someone on here with post-handgun ban preconceived ideas, bitterness or whatever else causes people to say such things.
The advice should be, only apply if you are sure you have good reason.

Is it not compulsory in Germany to carry a handgun for humane dispatch when hunting deer and boar? It's funny how attitudes and legalities change within such a short distance and culture.

I can understand the legalities even if I don't agree with them but the attitude towards pistols as displayed by some, that I fail to understand.

Why is that? (Not being argumentative, just that I have no experience of hd).if the stag is in an urban area a handgun at close range ,say 10m , would be more suitable than a small shot gun.

I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question, but do you mean .410 with shot loads, or a .410 slug?
If a handgun is such a problem, and for whatever reason the full bore rifle you have isn't appropriate, why not something like a T/C Contender chambered for a pistol cartridge, but long enough to qualify as a rifle - you can load a subsonic load and with a moderator be rather quiet, it can be broken down for discreet and handy packing, and doesn't weigh all that much. Much easier to hit with than a pistol too thanks to the stock, and no section 5 gun needed.

ERRR Cant understand how I was quoted on that comment as it was made by the previous poster NOT me. System overload!!!![]()

My answer to your first Q is if you are going to use a slug you may as well use a pistol with a rifled barrel , they are more accurate , a 410 shot cartridge would not be sufficient for a humane kill at anything other than point blank.
It would be nice to have a multi-quote button.
