Sellier & Bellot Blue Energy

The report didn't fill me with confidence at all unless I missed something. We all know that bullets kill things but they stated that the average deer in there study ran 8 meters, however 70% were head or neck shot. That means that the average chest shot deer ran 26.7metres. Well that's quite a long way in my book and could result in quite a few lost deer. Now I appreciate that deer run and we have to deal with it. Some run quite a long way too but that appears to be a high average run distance to me. What do you guys think?
sometimes chest shot deer fall to the shot , sometimes hart shot fall to the shot , sometimes they run occasionally they run a fair way and we get to then and think- "How on earth did that beast make more than a leap and a few steps at best ?" well its got more to do with state of alertness than bullet performance and that is backed up when you gralloch them ! Bullet performance still matters , so does exact placement but its not a guarantee . A shot that destroys the brain completely or severs the spinal column completely is the only sure fire none running deer !

I tried the 6.5x55 in my Sauer 202 and had pressure signs with flattened primers and stiff bolt on unloading. The accuracy was nothing special with 2” groups off a bipod (my usual RWS lead ammo is sub MOA).

Well I tried them today in the 6.5 Creedmoor and I’m getting just over MOA 150mts and it was a bit windy. The 120 lead free had an inch of drift and the 130 lead Norma had none. Overall they seem ok for factory and £20 cheaper than the Norma. Although the Norma grouped better. I think I need more range time to decide though

Having shot the Exergy Blue's in 6.5 CM, 308 and 30-06. Nothing to complain about, dropping whitetail deers at distances of 30-230 meters with runs between 5 and 50 meters with lungshots. Compared with Sako Powerhead II (Barnes TTSX I believe) I kind of seem to prefer these, the drops have been more "consistent" (very subjective judgment). They might be opening up faster or something.

No issues with accuracy either in 3 different rifles. On the other hand, when out hunting pin-point accuracy is not something I care about: sub 1 or 2 MOA doesn't make very much of a difference in the field out to at least some 300 meters as the shooter is probably the weakest point in the equation. At the range sub MOA accuracy is a different issue. But so is my rifle, optics etc.

Price wise they were quite cheap at around 50€ back two years ago, but have risen fast so now you pay some 60€-70€ / box of 20 and depending on caliber.

Just pipping in with my finding in the 30-06. I used the 165gr this weekend to test groupings and am pleased with the results at 150. All around 1inch if I did my part well. Work well in my 6.5 and 30-06 and not silly price IMG_3393.jpeg
