Shaving...Alternatives sought

Alright, I asked for alternatives to the Mach 3 kit, perhaps I didnt word it correctly...I was just shocked at the way the prices have crept up so quickly as with most other consumables...Maybe I will go down the safety razor route to try anyway, the open razors make me shiver just looking at them ala sweeney todd...I cant grow a beard as Its coming out white these days and should I let it grow I can see another buster doodah from only fools and horses appearing....As for basils suggestion, well a Mora clipper might not be as silly a i first thought...Cheers...;)

I grew my beard at 19. Just turned 65. Think how much I've saved on blades. For trimming around the edged one mach3 lasts two months

I hav'nt had a shave for the last three years, i got myself an hair trimmer and it's number 0 on my face and number 2 on my head saved myself a fortune.

I have a beard, lately though it seems to be a multi purpose gym for sheep keds. Bleedin things.

The missus was distinctly unimpressed when one appeared one evening when we were sat on the sofa :norty::shock:

I use my hair clippers with no gaurd on and on the shortest cut. I started doing this due to the cost of the razors.

:old:I use my dad's old safety razor for trimming around the beard. I have just had a new badger hair shaving brush, possibly a hint from the wife(?), having had the last one for 37 years, now there's value for money! My beards have come and gone over the years, but I have had one, in one form or another, since the twins were born 19 years ago. I don't care if it is white in places.
:old:
I also bought a pair of electric shears/clippers several years ago when it was going to cost me £7.00 for a haircut:shock: The clippers cost me £14.00 in the arg*s sale. No more bed hair, carrying a comb or being fleeced by hairdressers for me! A bottle of shampoo lasts for ages and my hair is dried with one pass of a towel.

I have known my wife for 30 years, she had never seen me without a beard, until I came back from goose shooting in Scotland one year, I lost a bet, and the beard, she took one look and said "grow it back"

I'll second what HME said yesterday. The Gentlemans shop in Hungerford is the place to go. I bought 2 safety razors from their probably eight odd years ago and they are still the best I've ever used. Try Merkur - I have the Merkur Futur and Merkur Vision 2000. They are expensive but they've paid back in what I've saved on razor blades. They also have an adjustable head that you can move vertically to suit the length of the fluff on your face. Try them you wont regret it.

Thank you all for your advice - looks like I shall be getting myself a safety razor and saving a small fortune on blades! Cheers All! :)

Razor sharpener

Hi mate,

I have the answer to your problem, one that vexed me for many years.

If you are willing to shell out £13 you will get many, many times the life out of a single blade by buying this :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Razorpit-01-0700-Razor-Blade-Sharpener/dp/B004W2UMDW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327953798&sr=8-1

I
t really is amazing - I am on the same Gillette II razor blade since end of October (when I bought the sharpener), just give the blade a few swipes along this sharpener/cleaner and it is like new. Like the tight arse I am, I kept cartridges of used razor blades (just in case) and am I glad I did as with this, I can't see me having to buy blades anytime soon. If I had the choice of giving up one of my rifles or the razor sharpener, the gun cabinet would be lighter in a shot. I just resented paying so much for something so insubstantial and with such short shelf life. Buy it (think it may have a money back guarantee) and you will be thrilled. Let us know how you get on with it.
