shivers up my spine

Where I used to live in N Wales close to Hawarden airfield, a Mosquito used to fly directly over our house on a regular basis. It never once failed to make the hairs on my neck stand on end.
The sound of those Merlins is simply gorgeous.
Tony the pilot at the time I lived under base leg, got so used to seeing me waiting on the balcony on the sound of his approach, He would give a wing waggle to me as he shot over the chimney pots.

Every time I see one it reminds me of the Old man who had a lot of return tickets to Germany in one. When I was a keeper on the Cotswolds we had a local who had a Spitfire, he flew it on VE 50th anniversary at very low level and got into trouble for it. Fantastic when you see one coming at you uphill and almost at tree height.
You just reminded me of this, lot's of you will probably have seen it, but anyway here it is .....

Cutting the grass is the term I believe.

I was fishing with a friend on ladybower in 2018 and we’d heard that the historic flight might be passing by so had my phone ready. They were almost upon us before I heard them. But what a sound…

Oh dear, it seems I can’t attach a video clip. Bit of a pointless post on reflection. 🙂

There is a chap with a trailer mounted RR Griffon he tours shows with it I've seen it run up a few times, fantastic, what a sound.

Grew up watching the Bbmf train flying over Doncaster when I were a lad and Raf Finningley had its annual airshow.
Love to see them overhead when we go Lincolnshire for holidays 😊

I happened to be away the last time the BBMF were over this side of the Irish Sea but a pal sent me a really great photo of a Lanc.
In the IWM Duxford amidst the many fabulous exhibits there is a Lanc. fuselage which you can climb into - stunning to see how far back the hatch is from the cockpit and just how big an obstacle the “wings“ are athwart the fuselage - between the cockpit and the distant hatch - not for the fainthearted believe me!

I have a high seat that faces north on the top of a high hill,
A chap who lives a few miles inland of us often uses my high seat to aim at when he is flying his Spitfire.
He takes people out for flights mostly in the summer months, it's quite a sight to see this plane swooping down towards you then banking away at speed.
When I go to this farm most people who are with me ask to sit in the seat in the hope of it happening, quite a few have been lucky, and shot a deer later in the day.

One flew low over our house in Herefordshire on Saturday afternoon. What a sound 4 Rolls Royce Merlin engines make.

I went to RAF Fairford during the Gulf War to see the B52s that were stationed there. Now they were impressive.

Yes! I saw that too on my visit. The only way I can describe it is : It's outrageous!
Funny how the memory is jogged by things like this. The first time I visited Duxford the American hangar was in the final stages of construction and planes were already inside it but covered in sheets prior to the opening ceremony. A couple of guys were practising driving up the side of the hangar in a Willy’s jeep - presumably part of the forthcoming ceremony - now that really was outrageous!
