Specimen Fishes any species..

Faded with age, me and the fish….
Took the kids on a holiday mackerel trip in Abersoch years ago. Skipper’s tackle with feathers and I think rods were brush stales, no bend at all.
Anyway guess who got this on the first drop?
Damn thing went straight to the bottom and stayed there for what seemed like ages.

That's fantastic Ken, life should be full of memories like that.

I knew this thread was going to cost me money . I'm looking at some guided trips for Mekong Cats and other large things , apparently it's too early . The wet season is just ending and I'll have to wait a bit . Hopefully , I can post some pics later . I suppose I should carry my phone and go after some snakeheads . Freaky fish , they get big , eat everything , live in mud puddles and can cross land if hard pushed ......... not a fish you'd want loose in the UK , or anywhere else for that matter . They're everywhere here and a lot of fun to catch . They really go after surface baits . It reminds me of Large Mouth Bass fishing in the states .

@alberta boy , That's good news if this thread has inspired you to "Go Fishing". Some pictures of Mekong cats & Snakeheads would be most welcome... quite exotic.

I was given a book to read many years ago, Jeremy Wade & Paul Boote, "Somewhere Down The Crazy River"
These two chaps both sold all their possessions to fund a trip to India in search of Mahseer, one of them had found an old book about the Colonial times detailing the capture of some of these huge fishes. They set off, not knowing if any still survived, as the great rivers in India had been fished with dynamite by the locals. They found a few, and the rest is history.
Their next trip was in search of the Goliath Tiger Fish..... this book inspired me to get out with a rod more... Jim Corbett had the same effect with shooting...

I've read the same book lol . I also read a lot of Townsend Whelen and Jack O'Connor . They were a major part of the reason why I left the UK and headed for the Rockies . I have been extremely fortunate in my life and have been lucky enough to have hunted and fished some amazing places . Unfortunately , I'm not at home and don't have access to any photos ( and a lot are photos lol ) so I can't post anything . Among my favourite memories was a trip up the Owen Creek drainage in the Alberta Rockies . I hiked into a little lake ( Michelle Lake ) above tree line , for Golden Trout . I managed to catch , and release , a few . The Goldens were a bucket list species for me , the scenery alone made the walk in worth while . You don't have to travel the world though , I got as much joy out of fishing the River Lea when I was a boy back in the UK . As long as you get out and do it , and never let the old man in lol .

Jeremy Wade & Paul Boote, 2 great anglers! Nice book. Paul Boote did a series of articles regarding the Mahseer in the great Angling Magazine. , Along with Wilson Gibbinson Gillespie Harris Hutchinson Bailey, there was some major fishing pioneers back in the day. Fond memories. Jack Hiltons Quest for carp was a major influence for me.
Chris Turnbull is a good friend of mine, illustrated many a fine fishing book with some superb paintings.

Yep, all Legends in their own lifetime.
Chris Turnbull was the NACA man, bumped into him on Bawburgh a few times when it first opened, he was after the tench.
The bygone days of early specimen hunting were a golden era, sadly, it's all very different today.

I did a fair bit of fishing in my youth, salmon and trout, I didn’t cast when out in Slovenia, just enjoyed the ‘stalking of the fish’; her dad is a lifelong fisherman of some ability.

Last couple of years I’ve stayed home with the pups and ferrets, to let her have some dad and daughter time.

Her grandparents were able too..

Iceland may be next year’s foray. Apparently good trout fishing there also. Her dad ( the boy in the above pic) had a 19 1/2lb sea trout on the fly in Patagonia a few years back, among others, fished in the Falklands too. Quite keen
