Stalking Directory / H4H Shoot 2011.

T shirt deadline.

Final call for T shirts. I will be sending the order off next Monday 23rd of May. If I don't have your request by then you will be waiting until well after the event for it. Please don't ask after Monday expecting to collect it on the day.
Get you hands out of your pockets guys.
Mark

Come on fellas, this event could be in the balance if we don't have more entries received in the next week.

It seems that shooters always like to leave things until the last minute. Some time ago I sent out information packs to all those that attended last year’s shoot and to those that expressed an interest in this year’s shoot. I’m beginning to wonder if you all received that information, or if you have received the information and are simply dragging your heels? If in any doubt as to whether you are on the list or not send me a pm or email me if you have my email address.

Don’t forget that you must pre-book for this shoot you can’t just simply turn up on the day and expect to shoot.

Thankfully entries are dribbling in now and things are starting to look good, I’ve been away for a few days with a mixture of work and pleasure so have been unable to respond to your emails but I am catching up this morning and sending out shoot information packs to those that have requested them.
Just in case I’ve missed anyone and/or if you would like to attend this shoot and haven’t received the information yet please drop me a private message giving your email address and I will send the information out immediately.

All the best to you all and I hope to see you on the 19th.

Hi Mike
I hope you have received my cheque for myself and Steve.
Can you please let me know.
Cheers

Miffy

Cheque received thanks miffy, and entry list updated.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up with Steve the way he has been donating prizes for the draw, he's obviously throwing everything into it.

Last Chance.

There is only a week to go until the Stalking Directory / H4H shoot and prize draw on the 19th of June. If you want to shoot or want to buy tickets for the draw (details in the H4H section) you need to get your cheques in the post in the next couple of days.

If anyone is thinking of camping over for this event there will be a group of us staying at the Glen Trothy campsite on Friday and Saturday nights. Glen Trothy is about half a mile down the road from the range and details are in the information pack sent out to shooters.

I forgot to post a start time for this event. While the range will be open at 10 a.m. there are no fixed shooting times and we shoot as soon as we fill the line and continue to do so untill all have shot. Don't forget it is a re-entry event.
We want to give people the opportunity to socialise and mix but try not to leave people too long to wait before shooting, ideally there should be a steady flow of shooters. So if you have some distance to travel don't bust a gut to get there for 10a.m. because you will still get to shoot.

Right guys you’ve had your opportunity to enter the Stalking Directory /H4H 2011 shoot so don’t try contacting me about any further late entries after this afternoon, as I will be off to the range to start organising things and setting up for Sunday and Saturday afternoon for some members who will be shooting then.
If you have sent me entries for either the shoot or the prize draw in the last couple of days don’t worry because I will be checking the post to-morrow morning and your entries will be dealt with, but don’t anybody else think that you can simply just turn up on the day and expect to shoot, because you won’t.

If anyone needs to contact me urgently they can contact me via a pm on the SD site but you must include a telephone number so that I can get back to you. I stress that this facility is for urgent matters only and we will get back to you as soon as we are able to do so. Those that have entered the competition should already have direct contact details for me.

Mike. (8x57).

Mike, Beth and your daughters, you have just made a great event even better! A wonderful day in great safe company. Only two minor injuries to Gyr and CSL, hope the stalkers kisses heal soon. That 460 Weatherby Magnum was some tool:doh:

Which was why I gave it a miss! Very kind offer to have a go - especially considering the cost of the ammo!

I can only add thanks to all concerned for an excellent day for a great cause. Looking forward to the next one.

Agree totally, a cracking day. Well done to Mike and family and a big thanks to the RO's and Monmouth and District Rifle Club for hosting the event and making it happen.

Loads of laughs and banter, a three legged deer, a blaser baton round etc

Have to agree with all the comments already posted. It was a superb weekend and great to meet so many like minded people. A big thank you to Mike, Beth & the girls plus all the other members of Monmouth & District Rifle Club for putting on a very successful event. I look forward to hearing the final tally as to how much has been raised for Help 4 Heroes.

Best Wishes,

Jim

A really good day and great banter. Glad you got home Sikadog ok and it didn't take to long. Some great shooting on the day also. Congrats to Pete, it was a close call with Ben. Well done.

Thank you all for the very kind sentiments expressed but so far you are thanking the wrong people. This event only works because of the absolutely massive support given by quite a large group of people. I had been reluctant to list them all for fear of missing someone off the list and causing offence, which is the very last thing that I would want to do but think it only right to put the record straight now. So please accept my apologies in advance if I do miss someone out and please correct me because you do deserve your rightful praise. Now this is going to sound a bit like an Oscar ceremony but – (the list is in no particular order).

Thanks to Monmouth & District Rifle Club for hosting the event and to those members who helped out both on the day and in preparation for the week-end. No charge was made for the use of the range. I may be the club secretary but that is it, it is not my range it belongs to the members of the club who are only too happy to assist the SD in raising money for such a deserving cause. Particular praise should be given to Dave Barrel the club Chairman who like the Royal Engineers was first in and last out of the range on Sunday. Incidentally the H.Q. of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers is in Monmouth castle. Yes there are two royals in the title. Dave also roped his wife in to bake cakes for sale and took numerous fantastic photographs of the event some of which will be posted by CSL at a later time.

Another Monmouth member is Macberran off this site. Gordon jumped straight in when we said we were going to run this shoot again and offered a Hebridean lamb for roasting, Gordon provided the pig for the hog roast last year. Gordon again involved his whole family with his good wife baking all the bread rolls herself. Once again Gordon offered that if anyone stayed at his holiday cottage and attended the shoot he would donate the accommodation fees to H4H. Just think of all the trouble and effort that Gordon and his family went to, and the expense also, a truly magnificent effort.

First off the mark with regard to offering prizes for the prize draw was Roedinator with the offer of a day’s roe stalking on his ground in Somerset. Pete’s mate BenC immediately jumped in not wishing to be outdone, and also offered a day’s stalking but with several add ons depending on the ground and season. I’m not sure what the final details are of that one but I can tell you that both prizes are worth more than a couple of hundred pounds and are fine prizes for anyone interested in stalking in a beautiful part of the country. The first prize was won by Jagare who lives in Sweden, Alan being one of two people who live abroad and who bought tickets for the draw. The second prize was won by Gunner who was present at the shoot and was actually stood next to BenC when the ticket was drawn so introductions weren’t really necessary.

Only fractionally slower off the mark as regards offering prizes for the draw was finnbear270, but there again the gout has kicked in and has slowed him down a bit of late. Steve overwhelmed me with numerous prizes, and at one stage I couldn’t update the list quick enough because I had other things to do besides. Steve also donated a Tirfor winch which we sold via sealed bids. There was a bit of a run on the bidding at one stage when someone misunderstood WENCH for WINCH but soon withdrew their bids. We shan’t mention the name of the excited party for fear of his wife finding out. Bandit Country also provided a very suitable prize for a stalking related prize draw in the form of a knife. I just hope that the necessary silver coin has been passed on in line with tradition, or bad luck will prevail.

Just like last year Buckup in conjunction with Croaker organised commemorative t shirts that sold well with pre-ordered shirts available ready to wear on the day and orders taken for others. He also organised the London contingent for the shoot who decided to make a week-end of it camping over on Saturday night in spite of the rain. Sorry guys I forgot to arrange decent weather.

The one group that I must thank most are the shooters all of which entered into the spirit of things and made this a very friendly and to my mind enjoyable get together for site members. Yes at times there was more than a little **** taking especially at the expense of Roedinaor who has taken more than a little teasing over his recent new membership of the “Blaser club”. When his brand new sound moderator blew apart with most of it landing 90 yards downrange in mid series just like a small baton round, you can imagine the sympathy and soothing words of concern expressed by all around him. It wasn’t helped when he won a sound moderator as a prize; no it wasn’t a set up -honestly Pete, it was just coincidence. My wife actually commented on what a nice group of guys (and girls) this event attracted with good humour and thoughtfulness and generosity from all.

The good news and final line is that at the end of the day a total of £1,143.54 has been raised for Help for Heroes. Absolutely no costs or expenses have been taken out of the monies received and nor will any, as everything has been donated free of charge to the fund. The only thing that will be taken out of the event is enjoyment a great deal of satisfaction that there are friendly decent people out there and that every one of them is a shooter.
