Stalon moderator cleaning?

Hello all,

I have a stalon x149 moderator in .308 fairly new, less than 100 shots. I always let it dry out after use, and it splits in two to be able to clean a little of the inside, but I've recently noticed what look like white fungus residue start to appear.

Ive soaked it in hot water and washing up liquid. It seems to have helped a little, but just wondering what else people do to try and prolong its life?

My other mods are wildcat so they fully strip to clean with a toothbrush and washing up liquid.

Also got a reflex T4 which gets some wd40 occasionally to stop it rusting.

Thanks.

Had one about a year or so - light use only as range days are T8s and ASE Utra. No sign of any similar “fungus” - hard to imagine anything surviving a few blasts when it is used so basically a couple of gentle taps, greasing of the threads (end and middle) and an occasional treat to WD40.

Got a couple of stalons - just run a bore snake through after every trip - shot or not.

My one does the same. I just clean it off with my cleaning rod kit or bore snake, and it's always clean still, when I next go to use it.

I just run a brush through my stalon and finish with a couple of dry patches after every use. Not noticed any issues as of yet.

I have never cleaned a mod, after many hundreds of rounds through each i have never noticed a problem.

Have wildcat, barton and MAE, all treated the same.

My Stalon mod also gets a white powder forming. If I shake it I can hear particles moving around. I shake them out of both ends until cannot hear anything. I run a brass rod brush through and spray with Silensave occasionally . I cannot split my moderator .

Same as this, ^^^ have a 149 on my 270 generally leave it alone and run an oversize bore snake through it. I see on lots of the sound checks the mods with some light build up perform better reduces the “ Ringing”

Thanks for the service link Taz. It is full of very useful information. This is exactly why I joined S/D to get support from all the experience out there. Cheers

Thank you for this. This is a great help

I have a Wildcat Evo on my .243 that fused shut for not cleaning it, the advice I got was to spray WD40 in each end, roll it around a bit and leave to dry. I've been doing that for my X108 and its stayed well.

My Stalon also builds up a white residue which if you shake will exit both ends. I cannot separate my moderator anymore so if I see residue in muzzle end I push a bronze brush through. I stopped spraying it with spray and just leave it off rifle when in cabinet
