Stalon Moderator

Evening all,

Does anybody have any experience dealing with Stalon sales?

I recently purchased the XS 149 from a local gun shop, after their supplier took the serial number of my rifle and assured me it was the correct thread.

Being a new shooter, I mistakenly assumed they would know best!

I attached it to my rifle… or at least thought I had!

1st shot - amazing! Super quiet
2nd shot - mod goes flying down range and you guessed it - my scope smashed my nose half way across the county!!

I had somebody more experienced than me take a look and they immediately pointed out it was the wrong thread.

This is obviously my fault, due to a lack of experience and knowledge, but does anybody know if Stalon are likely to exchange the moderator for the correct thread with it having been fired.
There appears to be no damage to the thread on the moderator or rifle

This is both yours and the dealers fault. You’ve already pointed out your inexperience, your RFD should’ve identified this and given you some assistance. Stalon will likely say “user error”. I’d start with the outfit that sold you the wrong mod for your rifle. I’m sure there’d be a member local to you who wouldn’t mind giving you a bit of guidance, but this lucky lesson will make sure you ask the questions in future. Best of luck getting it sorted, we all make mistakes!

Get right on to the shop. Yeah you should have double checked, but if someone has cross referenced it to serial number then a professional somewhere has dropped a bolloçk. Let them know about your injury too.

Thank you. I intend to go back to the RFD tomorrow, so I’ll update here with what they say, but I suspect you’re right.

If you know of anybody in Cheshire - send them my way!

Thanks Ben, I’m going back to the shop
In the morning.

For the life of me, I still can’t find a conclusive answer as to the thread!
It’s a Tikka T3x super varmint - the tikka website says 5/8 - 24. Ive called multiple RFDs and some have have said the same and specified UNEF, but so far I’ve had about 6 different answers and some have supposedly checked against what they have in stock.
After allegedly checking the serial number, the people supplying the mod gave me 5/8 - 18 UNF (which other RFDs had also said)

Baffled beyond belief

Do you have a set of calipers? Easy enough to measure the major diameter and also the TPI, if you're still unsure then post them here and someone will be able to tell you exactly what it is.

As far as Stalon goes, it's really got nothing to do with them, they didn't sell you the mod and they didn't tell you what thread to buy, that's solely from some gun shop owner that thought he'd be clever by looking at the serial number. He should have asked to see the rifle and measured it before selling you anything, very unprofessional.

Thank you, I’ll will do just that!

My Tikka is 18x1 came threaded from maker. Just got a new moderator it is threaded 18x1 and shoots perfect. Gun smith checked it with a thread protector and then on the barrel of a like rifle.

I just ordered a Tikka T3x lite in stainless, every one I saw for sale both new and used said m14 x 1 thread, my RFD ordered me a M15 x 1 Tikka T3x lite in stainless .223, I wanted the M15 x 1 so I had common threads with my Blaser barrels. Tikka is also selling 2 different barrel twist options.

I think there is no standard with Tikka and that it is possible to get different threads.

Hope you are OK, your RFD needs to solve this issue.

They also do imperial threads for the US market.
Just about every Tikka for the UK market is threaded but very few Tikka rifles are threaded for the US market, that is one of my big gripes in life! Yep we like our imperial threads in the US, so much for world standards.

I've done work for US clients in the past and having to convert from imperial to metric and then back to imperial again is a right royal pain in the hoop.
