Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Stuart for saving my knife!!! Got my beautiful knife sharpened and it came back, how could you say, not great!! Spoke with Stuart, and straight away he said send it back, and he has not only saved it, but probably put it back better than it ever was!!! If Carlsberg did customer service, they’d probably do Stuart’s!!! So once again, Stuart, you are a gentleman and a scholar!!! I owe you several.🙏

Is it maybe the angle the tormek puts on it- I read on their website between 8-22 degrees seems like too shallow? Or perhaps the width is too great on the blade. Never used one before but seems more aimed for cooks knife with a shallower second bevel?

Good of Stuart to fix it tho- looks like new.

That must’ve taken some real doing! Even my hamfisted early efforts were nowhere near that abomination!

Great news that stuart could fix it 👍
only reminds me of the dark past and me finding the grind I can sharpen myself now, I would belief there are many guys who like me have messed a few blades up over the years, a bit comforting to know there are craftsman still out there 👍

Wow! …

They certainly did a job on your beloved knife, you must have been fuming.
Looks like they have used the original Tormek stone and totally set the angles wrong as far too shallow.

As Stu rightly says, a Tormek is a great system but needs care, so much so I don’t use the original wheel and bought several CBN wheels which are far finer, the original wheel is just too aggressive for a decent knife . It’s also the case that the angle tool Tormek supply is miles out when trying to calculate precision angles , the only accurate way is with mm perfect measurements and a inputting them into a computer program, otherwise you risk changing the angle. It takes time to set up a Tormek correctly and time to do the sharpening, I think people think they are designed for speed for some reason and rush.

Totally agree with you about powered systems Stu, I think the worst being some of the powered belt sharpening devices. So easy to overheat an edge and things can go wrong in the blink of an eye.

Solid work with that repair Stu 💪. .., you wouldn’t even know the knife had even been damaged without the photos!

One happy customer… a great result :thumb:
