Suitable motorbike for pulling deer

This drag mat concept is, as others have pointed out, likely to be difficult to manage.

I speak as one who, as a yoof, devised all sorts of ill-advised trailers to tow behind his 50cc bike (as was common in the country where I grew up).

Why don't you humour/slay the doubters by conducting a dry run, with say a sack of sand to substitute for a deer. See how that rig performs, especially with respect to controllability, and the inevitable compromise you'll have to make on speed (slow enough so the tail doesn't start to wag the dog, but still fast enough to make progress and not be unstable on the bike).
My friend who weighs ove diced to

My friend weighs ove 100 kg decided to simulate a deer in the drag mat......I strapped him in and it pulled him no bother at all

You can’t tease us like that- pictures please 😂

Seriously though, ok you towed a 100kg lump on presumably level ground that consciously wanted to stay on the mat. So next stage is an inert lump with no consciousness on uneven ground. How is the handling then?

As long as your not going too fast and you take your time there's no reason it should fail......I've dragged deer in the same mat and I've never had an issue..........the Idea with the bike is to take the strain off me......if there is an issue with the terrain that the mat is on I'm sure it can be resolved if a little common sense used.

Exactly. I think there too many people on here who want this to fail for some reason or another.

Is it going to be as easy to ride and as stable as a quad and a trailer? No.

Will it work with a little planning and care? Yes, 100%.

OP wants something to make moving heavy dead deer easier and doesn't have a lot of space for storage and transport so a bike makes perfect sense. It'll be more fun and manoeuvrable on the way to shoot deer and if he blanks then plenty of fun to ride back too.

I'm not quite sure why so many people want to make stalking as efficient, safe and boring as possible. For some of us going stalking is about the feeling of adventure going on a hunt and getting some meat. Why not have fun while doing it.

I agree with you, I've met too many narrow minded people that can't think outside the box or accept the fact that something outside of the norm could work.......... everything I've wanted to do I've done

Written by a die hard biker. Quad every time, although getting them to your ground can be hard work with trailers etc…. They just are better at this king of thing. Motorcycle is just far from ideal in my opinion, not only is it going to be bloody hard work to ride at such a slow speed, but zero traction, digging in etc etc , the land owners would do their nut with the damage to the land. I couldn’t see any two wheeler dragging a red out of a Norfolk dyke, it’s hard work with a 4 x 4. Motorcycle would send out the wrong message to me as a land owner if someone wanted to use it for extraction and I would refuse.

:tiphat:

A good test will be like I did before taking my cart out, the chap pulling the fallow in the vid is 17 stone so when he called around I put a milk crate on it and did some testing.
The negative comments to my cart stopped the instant they saw it in use. 🙄
yes it is flat ground but 300 yds is still hard work pulling on on the deck.
These fallow were 57kg each dressed so at the time with head/feet 64kg a piece

I admire your fwd thinking and hope it works as the real test will come when you are fully loaded.

Negative comments 🤣 your still convinced it's the dogs 8ollocks. Bring it up to my place we'll stick a few Reds on it.
You'll soon change your mind.. There a tad bigger than that half a ton spiker your dragging with the old banger. 😂

The OP isn't shooting at your place nor do they want to drag a few reds at a time with it. I'm sure they're able to assess what size deer they can move and what is worth attempting.

For their individual situation the solution is this bike and I'm sure it will work well for them. Using a bike and trailer works for me but I'm well aware it won't work for everyone.

I do apologise bum hunter for not making myself clear. Im sorry..
I should of explained that my post was aimed at our Tim and his contraption 😄
I want him and his cart up my place in February next year. When everything has been dampened down by the winter weather and your half way up your legs in slop.😂
I do hope Birdshots idea works out for him and I wish him all the best.
I'm looking forward to seeing some forum content from him and his pals.👍

I'll be getting some videos and pictures ready at some point in the not too distant future......at the moment I'm waiting on my custom made bike rack arriving in the post........ For sanitary reasons I wouldn't want a beast in the pickup next to a motorbike with the smell of petrol etc etc.......I've seen lots of reds that I could've taken but the distance makes shooting them pointless........so looking forward to using the bike when the time comes, it'll certainly be interested

Yeah you're spot on, most people will assume the worst putting you in there shoes........Im only gonna drag literally 1 red at a time on a drag mat more than that would be extreme in my circumstances but definitely manageable on my terrain
