I was out on the local river last week and there were plenty of sand martins, swallows and house martins, we're still waiting for the swifts but they're starting to be reported around the country now.
Expecting the swifts in North Dorset any day now. They have been arriving within the same 2-3 days at the beginning of May for the last 10 years.....Just waiting for their piercing song to be heard around our building any time now! Always signifies the beginning of Summer for me but suddenly no sooner as they have arrived they have gone....usually mid August.
A pair of swallows have just landed on the back deck of a vessel I am on in the North Sea heading into Norway.
Wings hanging low and they look knackered, always a good omen and a sign that land is nearing!!
