Teckels

Strange but my younger dog has taken to having a pee in the laundry lately.
Started after my lad was here with his two dogs
Difficult one to cure I think, cause the old fashioned rubbing his nose in it and chucking him out has had no affect at all.

He knows it’s wrong cause if he hears me finding it he’s off behind a couch or somit.

As an aside, dogtra pathfinders are a game changer life saver for the wee buggers.

Do you folks all get your Wirehaired dogs stripped? How often?
Our Gwen is going today for the first time, she's jut over a year and she's turned into a right scruffy mess.

Sadly, our Teckel boy’s nuts failed to descend so had to be removed at the year point. As a consequence, his coat has gone from wiry to more like a 70’s bad perm hair day. Unfortunately, the female members of the house prefer him that way but it’s now got so bad that finding ticks is difficult and he’s beginning to overheat. So, it’s back to the groomers asap. She strips what she can of the body and tail especially but there’s a lot of clipper work too I’m afraid and anecdotally, once clipped, true wires are never the same. His mother was a shaggy heap too and I seen a lot of similarly haired dogs in the 3 years we have had the breed. Once you start stripping and you may have left it too late, you have to keep at it.

Hi there, we work him on every kind of game and vermin from Fox to dogging in Pheasant poults.Useing the Patterdale over the Teckel has made him more biddable, hard as hell and less huffy and hopefully a stronger back.

Thanks for that.

That's what I was thinking, they'd be a good addition. I didn't think a Patterdale would add more biddable, haha, but another positive.

Depending on what your looking for, the tendency to go to ground, mightnt be what everyone wants.

Did the other littermates all work out hunting wise, do you know.

He'd be a nice dog to put back over a full teckel bitch

All hunting and Keepers working home's all turned out great. Have had the same strain of Patterdale for 45 years. Worked them as a pack 4 or 5 at a time with up to 7 Wire Haired Pointers and 3 Wirehaired Greyhound cross. CARNAGE.

Haha that sounds like my type of hardship

If the coat needs stripping - absolutely get it stripped and keep it stripped regularly. Twice a year will probably do and the coat will improve the more he/she is stripped. They are not meant to look 'scruffy', they are meant to look pretty much like a smooth with the addition of furnishings.

Thanks, pretty much as I thought... She's much improved since having it done yesterday, although being her first time she would only tolerate so much, and needs to go back to be finished completely. She's now smart on top and scruffy underneath 😂

Would you still need to clip or cut along the skirt/beard/tail/other sensitive areas

It is better to strip but on some of those areas it can be difficult and, I must admit, I have used scissors - especially feet and underside of tail but if you can strip, it is better.

Stripping a coat makes it grow back more harsh......Cutting makes it grow back softer.

We usually get the youngsters used to the groomer from about 6 months, even if it just a 30 minute visit, then maybe again at 8 months, just to get them used to the process.

Yet more entertainment from the "German Low Rider"
Otto was well into REM when we spotted his regression into puppy on the tit mode,
SWMBO put her finger tip to his lips & away he went!
