The Creedmoor changes you…

. but i still cant see why the 6.5 creedmoor gets such a hard time?
I'm not the biggest fan of 6.5's but I've also not shot one, tbf.

I feel like most of the original hate Is coming from America where there under the prise Its a flat shooting calibre and expect too take down deer 800 yards away as expected.... a lot of deer were mortally wounded and never found and therefor "Needmore" got coined, they need a bigger gun too account for there **** shooting.

In all reality over here in brit-land people who are shooting deer, are shooting pretty often we also have the benefit some of our deer species (CWD/Muntjac/Roe) are pretty forgiving with shot placement too I've had some not so pretty shots on roe with .222s and they still tip over dead within reasonable fashion.

No.
I just wasn't very experienced, and made newbie errors.
I'm not sure why the .243 Is undervalued In this country I wouldn't intend on using it on 300 yard hill gun, but even this little short barreled baby .243 takes down red stags within reasonable fashion I'm not getting a complete pass through, but also both shots have been quartering both ways, not too mention one in theory could change there ammo types too a 110+ gr and see if that has a difference.

Its very deadly on slight quartering angles first one I shot this year literally tipped over within 5 yards, this fella here I lost picture of instantly but going off where he was when I walked up, he didnt move more than 10 yards and dropped quickly
(going off the reaction of the other stags)

Who hasn't had a .243 and not loved it, even regretted selling it .

Its a cracker.
First rifle I ever owned outright was a T3 in .243.

I was too stupid and impressionable to realise just how good it was, and listened to the nonsense on here.

I sold it. He sold it. I still know who has it, and it’s probably shot 15 rounds in the last 10 years.

If I’d just kept it I’d have saved myself thousands of pounds…

The 6.5CM gets a bad wrap because of the fan boys that refuse to listen about other calibres and get upset when people mention anything could be better in any many of ways.

I started life with a 308, which I still have I then got a 243 which I still have and I now have a 7mm PRC because aside from the price per round, I don’t think you could beat it right now.

I go between wanting one and telling myself that within the 250 yards I generally shoot, it’ll make zero difference. All a bit too sensible!

Was listening to a podcast suggesting get a 6.5PRC cut down to 18” and still get 6.5CM velocities but nice and handleable
I’d be reluctant to cut it down much - you’ll be wasting a lot of powder and creating quite a blast. If you’re wanting to go short like that, .308 is probably better.

beautiful stutzen mate, and a nice looking stag too :)

What @Mungo said, - each to their own of course, but personally i'd probably be very strongly inclined to go for a 308 if going shorter than 20".

what did you use afterwards?

All sorts of things. I was chopping and changing 2-3 rifles a year for a while, all different calibres, configurations and makes. Nothing really felt right or worked the way I wanted it to. Though in retrospect, I was also learning a lot about what I wanted.

The first that really stuck was a 6.5 Creedmoor. T3. After having it for about 2 years, I realised that part of the reason I liked it so much was that it was extremely similar to my old .243. I still have it, having first got it in 2018.

I then got a 6.5 PRC in 2021. That has stuck as well.

yep, sometimes you have go on a journey and discover what you dont like, to find what you do. 🤠 Do you have a mod on any of the 6.5s?

Knowing what you know now would you swap a 243 for a 6.5 CM. I keep going through this debate and can’t see the point in swapping. Perhaps if I was buying a first rifle then 6.5CM is a very good do it all, but for the smaller deer the 243 just works.
