The off hand challenge thread.

As kids we used to creep along an old disused railway cutting with big ash trees either side just as it got dark. The crows and woodies used to come into roost up in the top branches. Always shot off hand with air rifles and could even hit them bobbing in the wind. Doubt I'd even be able to spot them now

I’ve seen worse groups than that off the bench at the club.

That kind of accuracy and consistency is rare in any shooter

With the regulars that come here, they no longer spend much time shooting off bench - even at matches at 100m

That's not bad at all for freehand at 100Having never shot free hand with a center fire in thought I would give it a go.
6.5CM at 100m and its embarrassingdefinitely going to practice!
I did a five round group of sticks just to confirm am not completely ****.

I would agree. I have seen and shot much worse.That's not bad at all for freehand at 100

In Germany a key requirement of your annual shooting test is to shoot off hand. Its not a difficult skill, just needs practice. Its also a skill that degrades if you don’t practice.
Definitely going to practice with all my rifles at freehand, will be interesting to see how the different rifles perform.

Been shooting a good bit of .22 off hand lately, probably 800 rounds given it's such cheap practice.
Nothing worth posting here but it's given me a healthy respect for people who are competent and consistent off hand.

Today I shot a few 22's off hand.
First up was CCI standard velocity.
Not very good, very inconsistent.
Next up was some CCI blaser that I had modified to increase lethality.
They did much better but I blew it with the last shot.
I shot those at 70 yards or so.
I had also acquired recently just a few CCI Stinger.
Never found them much good except for one rifle I had years ago. A Remington 597 of all things. However, it seems this Sako likes them too and shot via my tripod they were going just high but all very close to each other. Quite pleased about that.
