The Stalker - BBC 1 Scotland

I would never baseline my zeroing uphill, start on the flat and THEN compensate for a downhill shot, I'm not even going to mention shooting uphill, there are those shots for sure but on here I'd get clobbered.

It's probably because shooting uphill is more comfortable for the punters. I can't imagine it's going to make that much difference at the angles & distances shown in the programme.

...Sako 30.06 (Africa) has round chambered but bolt handle skyward until rifle on target].

That was a new one for me.

That works very well for me and the PHs I have walked with. Why it works is as follows:

(1) With the bolt handle skyward, the PH can see [even from distance] that the firing spring is uncompressed and can be sure of safety
(2) My experience is that the bolt is seating snug when pushed forward with handlle skyward. I.e. the chambered round mated to bolt extractor claw prevents bolt rearward movement without some force
(3) I carry my rifles muzzle down in a Z sling, so gravity is always working with the bolt to stay located [the bolt handle skyward solution may not work for muzzle-up sling arrangements]

Not great if crawling either.

Was made aware of the programme on another site, downloaded on catch up and thoroughly enjoyed. The series is titled Our Lives so i suspect is not a programme made to entertain deer stalkers but give a general message to the wider public which i think it did very well. Have sent positive comment to the BBC
