Thick Recticle Scope

I recommend Leupold VX2 scopes with the duplex style reticle as they have thicker central crosshairs than S&B equivalents even though the outer legs of the Leupold duplex crosshair is thinner. I use them on three of my rifles (example below is a Leupold VX2 1-4x20) and even at 4x they work out to 1000yds at Bisley in the sense that the central intersection just covers the white sticker in the middle of the big black target disc.

Trouble with the Leupolds (for me) is that the eye relief seems very fussy.

I wish S&B did a 6x42 with a diallable turret!

Would be the perfect forestry scope where you occasionally have to shoot across clearfell.
They do - just mark the distances on the dial with a fine permanent marker. Pretty much what they did with first generation of l96 sniper scopes which used the 6x42.

I have 2 Zeiss fixed power scopes. Both are 6×42 with number 4 reticles,3/6/9 o'clock quite fat with thin intersection in centre.
Cost less than £400 each, both superb picture until late in the evening, daytime crisp without flare.
Might be something to consider. Quite often a bargain to be had, both mine came from Scottish gunshops from traded in estate rifles.
Good luck with the search.

This is a Zeiss 2.5-10x50. It’s great for stalking and ok for shooting groups. They come up s/h from time to time

I have a steel tubed S&B 4-12x50 on my stutzen and would happily let it go as I hate thick reticles. Its ony the need to find an alternative in the 2nd image plane with exactly the same external objective diameter that's putting me off:
