Thoughts on Scope 4-16x50 Hawke Sidewinder

Apologies for the 💩 exchange between me and yes.
Back to your question.

If you are just using it for deer stalking.
Then
Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 IR (30mm) CDS-ZL Rifle Scope is a good scope for low light transmission about £900.

The Hawke 4-16 sidewinder will do alright for stalking. I used it without any issues and that was a older model. I believe about £550 to £600.

If you have the cash the FRONTIER 30 SF 2.5-15X50 is about £700 and is a bit of step up.

If you are looking to do targets you may wish for something with magnification but then you also get more weight

There's no need to get upset just because you have been fleeced, it's happend to me too.

I admit I have been a sucker, and here's the Leupold proof.

Have 4 Hawke sidewinders - great for the money, work ace with add on NV, but personally wouldn’t put them on anything bigger than a rimfire.

As above, look for a second hand Leopold, Meopta or S&B fixed which will give you way better light transmission for stalking in the twilight hours.

I have a sako s20 with 30mm mounts, 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thanks all for the advice everyone, the other scope I was looking at was a Meopta Meosport r 3-15 x 56 but there is just not really any info out there on them

Whatever you get check warranty, as all brands have the occasional dud, and make sure easy to return and get exchange or money back.
Heard mixed reviews of meopta but never owned one so can't say myself.

Leupolds have a great warrantee, it just takes several months before you get your scope back again , and it is often not right even then. I have given up with them now. I have found that it's only the old Leuoplds that never need sending back, fingers crossed.

At 400 pounds you could buy 8 of the scopes I recommend. And without any risk whatsoever:lol:
You’re right, theres no FINANCIAL risk, but if you could really get a decent scope at that price we would have all done it.

I hear you, but unless I got extremely lucky this time things are different. Please prove me wrong !

An oft repeated truism wrt rifle scopes: Only a rich man can afford cheap glass. Been there. got the teeshirt. The exception may be fixed power scopes where you can buy a good used European scope for relatively little money.

Optically some cheap chinese made things may well be (just) acceptable but I can guaranteed that mechanically they will be inferior to a properly engineered, quality scope and few have the fully coated optics front and back nor the assembly precision. I've taken a few apart, including a Hawke Endurance riflescope, when it became faulty and was appalled at what I found in the elevation turret. Cheap and nasty doesn't come close. Since then, I've stuck to older Leupolds, Bushnell tactical elites (great scopes), or European glass and none of those has ever let me down, and have been far more reliable in terms of dialling precision. You get what you pay for with scopes. If a cheap scope came with the quality of any of the above in the mechanicals as well as the optics, well, it simply wouldn't be a cheap scope unless bought used. You'll end up buying cheap and wishing longer term you hadn't then good luck with moving it on without losing 50% or more of what you paid for it.

They are indeed but their Achilles heal were for me the awful turrets. If you leave the caps off they can move off zero with the slightest brush and the click stops are pretty indistinct. A little more investment in decent turrets and I'd still have mine.
