Tick on Toddler

I’d need probably between 20 and 40 tests per annum if every time one had to be picked off. Not sure my GP would go along with it 😂
My first answer was going to be vert rude. This one less so. If you get that many ticks on yourself you are extremely careless.

Some of the areas I stalk, brushing 30-50 ticks off trousers as you move just 500yds isn’t abnormal. Without any tick protection, it would be 3x the figure. You probably live in a place where getting a tick is uncommon and you run to the Go crying for antibiotics - here we have balls and deal with it like men 😂

I happen to live in an area that got one of the highest burdens of Ticks in the UK. i also spend most days out in this area.
I used to think like you and also thought I was the hard man! how wrong nature proved me!
As I say I am out most days and I DO NOT get ticks full stop. There is No need for anyone in UK to get ticks if the are sensible, unless in the garden etc.
And if I got one and didnt know how long it had been there, I would get antibiotic.
Rather that, then let it kill or permanently be disable me.
One final thought, get tick borne diseases and you might just lose the use of those balls!

Wonder if anyone with any experience can offer some advice or has previous knowledge.

My wife removed a small tick from our toddlers neck one week ago. It was removed very quickly after first seen and was only on for an hour tops I would say until seen.

All of it was removed and there were no adverse effects. The bit site healed well, was never angry and never developed into a bulls eye or rash of any kind. She has never shown any signs or symptoms since.

This was one week ago. As toddlers do she has picked up a wee viral bug and has been running a temp of 38, which has responded well to calpol. This is in last 48hrs. Understandably my wife and I are para about it being lymes or anything else.

Seen by the GP today and she’s not overly concerned and her own personal opinion it’s unlikely to be Lymes and she wouldn’t give antibiotics. We are also not keen for a 21 day dose as well but obviously concerned. But she’s given us the prescription none the less, so ball is in our court.

Just wondering if anyone has experience or can offer any advice re this?

Many thanks
First time I saw an attached tick was on my son, 4 at the time. Not pleasant, particularly as it almost certainly came home with me, GP not worried and said not to antibiotics.

No issues since, I am now very careful with long gauntlets when gralloching and a change of clothes as soon as I’ve skinned. My boy, now 11, comes to spectate when I go stalking so he gets a good check over when we get home with no more ticks, touch wood!

For peace of mind I keep a couple of these in, which allows you to send the removed tick or ticks off to be tested for lymes. I’m in Wiltshire, air there’s lymes about, but all 3 I’ve sent off so far - from 3 different areas, all came back clear.

I shouldn' t worry about what hasn't happened . Lots of us pull tics and dont run off to the Doctors . Call the Dr when there are symptoms suggesting its not right .
Dont know how many times i have been got but i have had a good few removed sometimes a number of them at one time . Dogs get them pretty frequent
Like a non specific fever within a week?

It never ceases to amaze me how some people never gets ticks no matter whether there working with livestock or out on the hills , I’m a magnet for them and no matter what I wear or method I put on my skin I always end up with a lot .
2 days on Mull and pulled of 50-60 , my wife pulled of the ones I couldn’t reach 😉all the red marks are ticks removed from 1 leg as I’ve 2 😁IMG_1066.webpFarmers never seem to get them so maybe I’m needing a bath in Spot On .

There might be some truth in that. I never pick up ticks, despite working in ticky places all day every day, and I guess I've absorbed a fair amount of various pour-on products for sheep over the years.

My mate who works with sheep gives me spot on for the dogs so I’m going to put some on myself this weekend to see if that makes a difference.

I know it’s stronger than your Spot On you would buy on the shelf but surely a wee drop rubbed in wouldn’t harm me .
