Tikka T1X

I've had a T1X 16" .22LR for about a year now and have been very happy with it.

It shoots half inch groups at 50m without difficulty and feels like a 'big' rifle. Mechanically, it strikes me as better thought out than my Anschutz 1517 (which is really accurate but the design is quite 'old fashioned').

The 10 shot magazine is nice and simple and at 30 quid isn't too bad to replace.

Based on my chrono readings, which mirror or better the 'on the box' velocity, I wouldn't bother with the 20" barrel.

My only particular gripe with it is the butt plate, which is plastic and a little slippy.

I really don't think you'll go wrong with one of them.

In my efforts to get mine shooting a bit better I bought a borescope to see if anything was wrong inside the barrel. Bearing in mind it's only 8 days old and fired 600 shots. (I'd never cleaned a rimfire barrel before)
This is a video after the first cleaning with patches and solvent, seemed to be quite a build up of lead in the chamber/throat area and leading towards muzzle:

Then cleaned again and left overnight to work and a second video, chamber looking much better:
After shooting it today it has definitely improved, Eley Match for 5 groups of 5 is averaging right on .503 at 50 yards for 5 shots so big improvement there.
Winchester 42gr is averaging .628 over 6 groups of 5 shots.
Definite improvement since giving it a deep clean. Hopefully I won't need to bother again! I'm much happier and it's shooting a bit more like most others are now

Disassembled the bolt to clean mine yesterday, not done it since new and well over 1000 rounds through it now, very little grime but it was a bit smoother afterwards.

Just got back from a quick range session, shot 50, 75 and 100 meters. Wind under 10mph (rare event here!).

At 50m, ragged hole groups when I did my bit. 75m same story, 100m just under 1 MOA on a bipod when I made good wind calls. Very satisfying!

The PSE Multi Purpose stock and aluminium bottom metal have definitely improved the consistency and made it easier to shoot well. Barrel contour works nicely with the old Parker Hale rimfire moderator.

Upgrades on the horizon are Sterk bolt shroud and handle (the plastic shroud is really not my cup of tea, worried it would break when putting back together) and maybe a Bixn'Andy trigger if I win the lottery! (according to Tikka the trigger is the same as the T3)

Looking back I should have said just over 1 MOA, thought my spinner target was a bit smaller than it actually is.

Still really good accuracy, trying to source some SK Long Range Match to try through the T1x.

My CZ455 earlier today



Absolutely accurate as hell and very good at 100m too. I bought the 457 MTR for bench work and that too is excellent, I was considering the T1X however but the CZ won the day.

I have one with the 20" barrel, it will shoot CCI mini mags into around an 1 1/2", and with eley force, it will do 10 shot 3/4" groups, that's at 100. It's all stock.

I have the tikka in 17 HMR 16 inch barrel and with federal premium 17 gr it’s with in 15 mm group at 100 yards , not bad for a £480 gun new .
Also have CZ 457 royal.22 which is more expensive than tikka at £650 but this CZ is so accurate even at 100 yards and not that fussy with ammo , but using Norma 40 gr , thought these might be rubbish, specially at £4.50 a box but bullet on bullet at 50 -75 yards and at 100 within 1 inch .
Well happy with both guns , plus have a GRS hunter stock for the tikka ,makes a difference to performance

Best .22RF I've ever owned, feeds and ejects like a dream, brilliant accuracy out to 75 yards. Mine prefers Eley clubs. The new UPR looks interesting.
