Top 5 .22LR bolt action sporting rifles

A very personal choice as it depends which attribute you prize the most.
Top for fun, Ruger 10/22.
Top for reliability, CZ 452.
Top for accuracy, Anschutz 1710.

Heap of SH1t, my mate had one from new. Allways let him down.

Hi Tusker
Thats the very reason I got my first 22 rimmy blaser, I had the 22 rimmy quad and it went back 3 times for ejector problems, every five shots rod it out and clean the throat, every now and then ejector claw jammed had the same in WMR and it was faultless but the rimmy in the end they took it back.

I’ve got however a sako pro in 17 Mach 2— it is a superb rifle deadly accurate and faultless - I believe it is just a better made quad as it can take a barrel change

I was going to get the 1710, I then ended up buying the 457 lrp, I decided that this target design rifle would be the best of both worlds. Very happy with, and glad I purchased it

More chance of winning the lottery and getting shagged by an alien on the way to check your ticket.

Really? I know they’re a bit love/hate but I haven’t had an ounce of trouble out of mine since I bought it in 2016. Not fussy with ammo and plenty accurate enough for field work. Cost £200. What’s not to like?

Bergara B14 R. Uses the excellent B14 HMR stock and has all the benefits of a Rem 700 platform but in a .22 calibre.

Just putting this out there to get other people's opinions. Give me your top 5 bolt action .22LR sporting rifles, I don't mean best value for money, I'm taking out and out best in terms of build quality and accuracy.

It'll no doubt result in me purchasing something at some stage.

I'm guessing we'll see the likes of:

Mauser 201
Sako Finnfire
Tikka T1X
Anschutz 1710
Weihrauch HW66
you missed out the CZ , "I simply don't believe it" Never known anyone buy a Mauser , Weihrauch rarely , original Finfire a brilliant rifle but i wouln't fancy finding and buying replacement mags
Without a shadow of a doubt my vote is with the 452 CZ , i would buy a good tidy used one over any other RF . Had eight shots of 22 lr through the exact same hole at 100 yards mine ( put two in the sand becuse i though i had a complete scope failure or i would have potentially had a 10 shot screamer ) . mags are easy to get , my daugher after shooting mine got her own . both the varmint version it shoots equal or better than mine . didnt spend a lot on either both off second hand rack . I do like a nice origonal finfire though you can all keep the trashy ones of today . Anschutz are very nice accurate gun and after meeting Mr Anschutz he thinks the UK will buy high grade walnut and high finish , which is nice ( extremely nice ) but likely they wont even sell to the gentry. But couldnt get it into his head that the uk RF world is 1. target 2. vermin 3. just plain having fun , its not like posh bird shoots and 200 year old fashion clothes and showing off . its a quad or ATV, farm supplies wellies and practically always moderated in the field. Who was it i cant remember who brought in Annies and put those thumbhole stocks on ? they really sold!

I've used various Brnos, czs and Rugers at the range, all decent but mostly club guns so not the finest examples. I've Just bought a Mauser 201 though and I have to say it's lovely.

It has to be this which is so seldom seen in the UK but without question is truly awesome to both handle and shoot:
I only wish I’d known the straight pull action in question could be had in sporting (hunting) rifle configuration direct from the factory before I ordered and waited 2-years for a Cooper 22LR rimfire.
A chap, now sadly gone, Arthur Harvey used to deal in used biathlon Anschutz .22 rifles, they were truly amazingly accurate

At the top of the list has to be M Dorleac’s 22lr built on a Mauser action.

After that would be a converted high quality rook rifle

After that the Brno Mod 2 and its offspring - but look at the higher grades

And the older Anchutz you used to see advertised with roll over cheek piece etc.

I always liked the Ruger 77/22 in walnut stock. They looked and handled well but had a reputation for not shooting as well as they should. But I shot hundreds of bunnies with one and never questioned the accuracy.

If I was buying a 22lr now it would need to have:

1) a left handed action

2) a faster than 1 in 16” twist barrel.

I have owned most of them, Including the walnut stocked Ruger 77/22 which I like quite a bit. Very accurate rifle that I still have.
I have had Anschutz but no longer. I currently have more CZ 452 and BRNOs than I can accurately recall, Winchester 52s. Savage, Marlin.
I shoot my T1X the most. Plastic stock that absorbs punishment without complaint, great trigger and superb accuracy. Wonderful off-hand rifle. ~Muir

Plus…trigger pull, length same as my other rifles and fits a tikka centrefire stock too.

For sure.

It’s a .22, after all; there’s something to be said for just keeping things lightweight, cheap and fun. Of course, there are also ways to make them suit just about anyone’s wants, since endless upgrade options exist.

That is one of the best rifles I have ever shot. I am not really a fan of the .22LR cartridge generally speaking and always keep meaning to ditch my little Anschutz to make space in the cabinet. If I found a 201 nearby in awesome condition, I am sure it would expedite the Annie being chopped in.

Picked up a second hand BRNO No2 made in 1986, puts everything into one ragged hole at 50m as long as I do my bit with subsonics. Barrel's been cut down and an unnamed mod on the front, a cheap Hawke scope on top which has the Pard on it. I've plinked out past 200m with it with surprising accuracy. I'd hate to think of how many rounds it's had put through it but it's slicker than snot. Don't tell any of the other guns in my cabinet, but I think it's my favourite.
