Transport Cooler?

wondering if any one has any cheap cooler box ideas for traveling, its never been an issue stalking close to home, but heading north soon and with the current uk weather i dont really fancy leaving carcasses (if lucky to get some) in the pickup for 6-7 hours when travelling home any ideas for home made cooler box’s or anywhere selling somthing cheap that i can make do with,

Thanks

Big (165L) Igloo, Yeti cool boxes are available but expensive (there was one on UK Deer Stalking for £40 yesterday though) and filled with frozen water bottles. Something I did a long time ago though (and still use whilst out stalking on these hot days) was to let the top from a cheap 12v electric cool box into my Homebase (others are available) storage box used to transport my shot deer. Whilst this will never be as good as a proper refrigerated container, it does stop the heat from building up in the closed box and allows the carcass to progressively come down in temperature so that when I'm back home, its ready to go straight into the chiller. Since these photos were taken, I've "upgraded" to a larger Lidl cool box top 🤗

That looks ideal mate i shal
Have a look on ebay for some big containers and maybe pack them solid with ice

Fill an ordinary coolbox with frozen icepacks to take with you. They'll stay frozen for several days if tightly packed.
Put your shot deer in a plasterer's bath, fill the body cavity with icepacks, place a few more around and under the carcass, then cover the tray.
It'll be fine.

I have found polystyrene boxes on ebay unsure if these would work

Has any one used kingspan insulation boards? Im tempted to line my deer sledge with some and then throw one over the top

If you are shooting that many I’d say the most practicable solution would be to find a chiller to put them to a dealer rather than schlep them all the way home in questionable conditions

Not sure how many il shoot il only bring 1-3 home (if im lucky enough to even get onto a few deer) but trying to be prepared if the sun continues i really dont like the idea of traveling to stalk and if lucky to get one not bringing it home to the freezer

Still, honesty id be trying to find an outlet for most of it and then skin and break one down to transport in an esky with ice blocks

The larger igloo boxes are perfect for your needs.
Get the frozen bottles in a few days before.

I have ground 5 hours away and 8 hours, and have never had an issue keeping a carcase cool.
Only problem is trying to source one locally as they've gone rather expensive.
I paid £80 just before covid.

I did years ago, build a ply box around a plasterers bath and filled it with kingspan and expanding foam along with a lid.
Worked fantastic but incredibly heavy and cumbersome to move about.

Freeze some 2l bottles of water and put inside the shot carcass, place in a storage box with a top, no worries for a 6-8 hour trip home, I used to do regularly when I lived in Cheshire and stalked in Dumfries.

I liked to put a couple of bottles under the carcass to make any blood drain off the carcass as well as provide extra cooling.

Alternatively just buy bags of ice and double bag them with bin bags, I’ve done that too.

A few years ago I went boar shooting in Devon for a couple of days. I used an old polystyrene box (had originally been used for broccoli) and put ice cubes in it. Went all the way to Devon and back, and kept my boar lovely and cold.

Cheers mate will deffo get some big bottles water frozen ready and throw them into the chest cavity

Those Costco igloo coolers are definitely big enough for a few deer. I had one when living in the states and was able to put a quartered elk with room for ice bottles. I just saw them at Costco as well but can’t remember the price.
