Trophy Hunting

Will be interesting to see how the House of Lords vote on this legislation,
Reject it,
Accept it in it’s entirety
Amend it ?

I think the big 5 will definitely go along with zebra and giraffes.
Well that was black and white, not rocket science to know that was on the cards was it?’

It was expected, as a good vote winner and effects very few people in the U.K.

Lords are trying to stay popular too at present as calls have been going a long time to reform them too. So the majority of the bill be accepted if not all of it.

has anyone had a look at the legislation?

This Act applies to—
  1. (a) an animal of a species listed in Annex A or B of the Principal Wildlife 5 Trade Regulation, subject to such exceptions as may be specified in regulations made by the Secretary of State, and
  2. (b) an animal of such other species as may be so specified.

this is the document with annex A or B

it covers lion, rhino, elephant, leopard but not Buffalo

most other plains game are not covered. so I am not sure how much of a difference this will make.

Think it Also includes oryx , Lechwe , sable, mountain zebra, some Duiker sub species but definitely not an outright ban .

I’ve got loads of positivity, I just don’t support campaigns have no chance in winning, it’s called pick your battles!

You will never win the trophy, hunting battle, ever!

point blank it’s not public friendly. Therefore, it is not vote friendly and until it is you will lose so there is no point in fighting it. end of subject, complete waste of time and effort.

Find other shooting related campaigns to support, ones where you actually have a chance of winning!
Is there any these days we now sadly live in a society where folk quite happily bend over and take what ever is stuffed up them

Is that all oryx, or just Scimitar oryx? I wouldn't expect South African oryx to be banned. (prettier ones in my opinion anyways)

I have no idea what percentage of hunters who hunt Africa come from the UK. But the UK trophy ban won't affect hunters from thw rest of the world who want to hunt Africa. So how big a impact will it have on trophy hunting in Africa if UK hunters can only go on cull hunts ?

You can still go and hunt what you want. You just can’t bring back a trophy

You’re losing the argument because you accept that every time someone imports or exports a piece of an animal that they’ve shot, it automatically becomes a trophy.
The majority of heads, hides and horns are not trophies, because most of them don’t make the minimum standards required.
They’re souvenirs, nothing more.

But that’s one of the points to shoot a mediocre beast it costs say £100 But to shoot a medal class would be £1000 and that’s where the trophy comes in, if I paid big money and stalked an animal for days I would want to bring back a trophy. That’s my choice so why do I need somebody else to say no we don’t like it so you can’t do it.If like others have said the hunt will still take place and animal is dead why will it need it’s horns or antlers Just seems immoral to leave them behind.

Ironically, given your last sentence, the only justification for a ban is if society has judged trophy hunting (whatever that comprises) to be immoral.

There is no justification for a ban based on a belief this will save endangered species and their habitat.

If only it were that simple:

In this Act “hunting trophy” means the body of an animal, or a readily recognisable part or derivative of an animal, that—

(a) is obtained by a person (“the hunter”) through hunting the animal, and

(b) is obtained for the hunter’s personal use (which does not include consumption), whether or not the body, part or derivative has been processed in any way.

The Bill cares not a jot for CIC, SCI, Boone & Crocket or whatever other measuring system you might care to mention.

I get that, fully.
But we never challenged the terminology.
Bye the way, if your summation of the act is correct it’s also completely unenforceable.
If I shoot a creature I can’t import or export any of the bits or pieces, but if I gift it to you, you having taken no part in the taking of the creature, you can now legally export/import as you like because you didn’t kill it.
Presumably therefore, you can also dispose of your legally acquired and legally imported private property thereafter by gifting or selling it back to me at some stage.

Yes, because the legislation is quite prescriptive In terms of the terminology used, I think there will be the opportunity for some creative thinking.

Two hunters, for example, might go hunting and then sell their “trophies” to the PH. They then go the “shop” the PH happens to have and buy the other hunter’s trophies, getting a receipt saying that their souvenir was legally acquired from a retail outlet.

Get back home, and then accidentally pick up the “wrong” trophy when they exit the taxi.

Not so early if they want them shoulder mounted perhaps.

OK
I don’t think I have responded to you before
Watch this. ALL THE WAY THROUGH please tell me when you have. All of it
Now tell me there isn’t passion. Dedication and a sheer brutal will to keep the wild places wild. I hunt there. I fund there. I am nothing compared to people like Derek. Such people just may keep something our kids and their kids may look on with wonder anew. I do hope so They depend on us
