I am in the market for a new coat and am in a "Buy British" frame of mind. Can anyone suggest or recommend a domestic maker of shooting coats and possibly trousers.
Many thanks. Steven

Thank you for the links.

Mountain Method in Millom Cumbria.
Will do custom designs and can also supply Ventile clothing.

Just looking at redkettle and it looked very familiar in style to one here in DK called Northern Hunting. Turns out Redkettle are also Danish but not related to Northern Hunting.

Some Barbour stuff is still made in the UK. But most now comes from Turkey, Portugal and Bulgaria. Check the labels.

It's interesting (or disheartening really) how much is made in other countries now. Watching Dragon's Den recently, it became apparent that outsourcing manufacturing to other countries (The Orient features a lot) is an accepted way to keep costs down and you would attract criticism if you don't do that.

Bison Bushcraft make some nice kit from natural materials if that's the sort of thing you're after?
I would agree but substitute "nice" for "interesting" and mindful their sizing & cut owes more to Stoneage Man than 21st Century!

They do however now offer their Bushcraft uniform "Guide Shirt" with a hood, for which you may thank me!

Thanks for all the suggestions. There is more to choose from than I feared first off Im going to look at Bison Bushcraft, something with a hood.

Following recommendation by a pro stalker up in Scotland, I bought a smock and a pair of trousers from Riverside Outdoors at the Northern show ...... impressed so far.

They show various makes but if you dig down you’ll find their own brand...

eg Waterproof Birkdale Shooting Jacket Stalking Stealth Coat Windproof RRP 159 New

Or if synthetic is your thing then Buffalo (pile and pertex) tops are still made in Yorkshire. My mountain shirt has kept me warm in some nasty conditions over the (many) years I've had it. Sometimes too warm though.
