Uk air rifle licensing

Thought I run this by you guys

will the humble old air rifle become a part of sect 1 or 2 licensing in the near future

Reason for asking - my mate has just thrown in the towel as near as dammit on his sec 1 and 2 FAC’s and will only be keeping his PCP air rifle as he’s got the right arse over the paraphernalia of renewing co terminusly

he has however, some how managed to get it into his noddle that his air rifle will be in the near future going on ticket

I've jumped on it and said if thats the case he should renew his sect 1 & 2 again in January and keep his rifles / permissions etc

anyone got any news on this happening in the uk excluding scotland which I thought was getting close to being fact

If everybody followed your mate's lead then we would all hand in our firearms, we would also sell all of our diesel vehicles and petrol too for good measure. While we're at it we may as well also rip out our gas boilers.
Then the authorities would have an easy time banning everything because nobody would be using any of them any longer.

Quicker the better. Can’t wait to go electric in my next house.

That aside
Air gun licensing is a farce. It was introduced up here to pander to the thick masses who read the daily record.
Complete waste of time and resources and achieves nothing with respect to public “safety”
Total arse hats.

Indeed......complete overreaction to one tragic incident in particular and a sop to the hand wringing brigade. Sadly, this meant that hundreds, if not thousands of air rifles were handed in to be destroyed, this also meant that the half-wits who went around taking pot shots at people/dogs/cats/birds/cars/buses can still carry on doing the same as they don't give a stuff about any legal requirements anyway! Added to that the miscreants know that the chances of getting prosecuted or caught by our ever diminishing Police force is between slim and bu*ger all!
If the Government does contemplate this in England, please feel free to make the point that it has made no difference to criminal usage of air weapons and just penalised the law abiding.

It was a bit unexpected I gotta say, but like me he’s not computer led and when I sent mine off electronically and I printed the whole lot off and sent it in by post and a copy to the FEO they kindly responded we’ve got it, we’ve got we’ve got  But excluding the doctors report which took 2 hours to send in the plea bargain and the £30 to get an e mail copy and they sent it in to the police as well the longest drawn out bit was getting the permission to shoot info signed off
applying took me a day to do on the pooter with a couple of ballocks I start this all again it went ok in the end

I think it caught him on the hop, the last renewal I think the FEO just came around for a cuppa and took it away with em to get it processed

now it’s more having to get all the info uploaded and in the right order and paying

if your not up to it, it can be a bit daunting, but it’s what you have to do so just as well get on with it, it can only get easier :rofl::rofl::tiphat:

Isn’t that just the same with all firearms legislation?
K.

Hope you don’t get caught out as they did up in Aberdeenshire after the storms!
Aberdeenshire Coucil are ripping out the old wood/coal fires in the name of decarbonisation.
Wonder how many old folk would have succumbed with out the old woodburner?

I also remember a local quarry operator knocked out a pylon at Newhouse, we were without power overnight.

So yes it’s good to get rid of fossil fuels - but to rely on one system is asking for problems.

Same could be said for relying on gas to generate electricity……

Hmmm. Airguns, rifle or pistol are treated in exactly the same way as rimfire and centrefire rifles and pistols in Northern Ireland - all on certificate; even worse air pistols are restricted to approved club ranges only.
Likely coming to a force near you........

Out of curiosity, what is the penalty if you are a Weegie scumbag caught shooting tin cans with an unlicenced pellet gun.

2Requirement for air weapon certificate

(1)It is an offence for a person to use, possess, purchase or acquire an air weapon without holding an air weapon certificate.

(2)A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is liable—

(a)on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum (or both),

(b)on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or a fine (or both).

This is just like renewables…

What’s your thoughts on the storage of the air weapons. I always believed that it was fine in a cupboard out of sight of casual visitors to your address. Not according to the FLO who came out to do my renewal recently, they insisted that it must be in a firearms cabinet or secured with a metal cable to a wall to prevent that casual visitor leaving with it under their arm as they wave you goodbye.

Given anyone can buy them over 18- I don't see why they should be locked up.

As responsible citizens we should probably aim to go above and beyond- so out of sight etc- but there's no law on storage of air guns- provided you don't make it easy for under 18s to get them (on display in car etc).

As to the OP- I really can't see sub 12 air guns being licenced. What a total waste of time.

Correct. In Scotland it has been an unnecessary, expensive and time consuming exercise for everyone, including the Police who didn’t really want it anyway as they knew the administrative burden it would cause.

Licensing came about because the so called Scottish Government, which is an over bloated expensive town council at best that specialise in making U.K. politicians look competent, decided that they wanted to look like they were taking a hard line on crime whilst also testing the water to see if they could get firearms legislation devolved.

The reality is this vanity project has done the sum total of **** all in relation to reducing offences involving neds and air rifles and I’m yet to see how it has made a difference to prosecutions bearing in mind there was already sufficient effective legislation in place when used correctly.
