Be nice, that’s somebody’s beloved sister-wife.

A very limited gene pool indeed (almost a puddle, in fact). They are a rare breed from Clun.
Yes there was a large boar a couple of years ago. It was spotted by two different people on a farm that I shoot on but was shot elsewhere. No idea how it got there as its a long way away from any wild boar population. I don't think that they have established any population in North Herefordshire so until that happens its unlikely that there will be any in Shropshire (unless released). It seems one may have been spotted near Clun, thats about it.
Boar are very , very good at escaping and litter numbers / survival rates isn't bad .Yes there was a large boar a couple of years ago. In my late father's time they had roe deer drives. Roe being, then, considered as little more than vermin. The idea of charging paying rifles for "woodland stalking" didn't then exist. Woodland was for pheasants not for roe. I've never done such but deer drives (as it used to be done...with shotguns) are thankfully a thing of the past in the UK.Not boar, but I’m surprised that driving muntjac hasn’t taken off as a legitimate control technique.
I was thinking shotguns rather than rifles, similar to fox drives.
Yet if we do not get to grips with Muntjac spread and numbers - The government will think of things far more horrific .In my late father's time they had roe deer drives. That's a bit large? Surely number 4 is best? That's what those grandads thought. Awful as it was! Number 4 will kill, yes, indeed so will number 6 (and as I've related before on SD it will even kill tiger) but the problem was not at thirty or forty yards on a deer.Well its a lot better than grandads 2 1/2" of number 3
You can kill most things with a 12 ftlb airgun , thing is you simply wont be able to do it to order and there is a lot of things that can go badly wrong . Yeah its possible to do so much but we look at likely-hood of a one shot forgone conclusion ( but be ready to put things right , when the Law od SOD shows its hand)That's a bit large? Quickest way to get another ban on the books..Uk is not Turkey or Croatia!Several years ago Peter Carr did organise driven Boar in a part of SW Scotland but was soon stopped due to the way it was run.
Apparently pigs were kept in a certain area and fed for a while and then released to be pushed towards standing guns.
It was covered in depth by an article in the times, titled 'Big Guns Return to Scotland'
Some pigs actually ran/walked towards some of the guns expecting to be fed.
In places it has/had been used with varying degrees of success/safety/humane controlNot boar, but I’m surprised that driving muntjac hasn’t taken off as a legitimate control technique.

October the 1st is the start of the shotgun season for roe here in Sweden. Twenty mtrs max range with #1s or #3s. The shot works by disrupting the deers nervous system and there is little meat damage. I'm sure a shotgun would work on Munti's. The secret is to know your ground and where the roe will appear so the guns are standing in the right place. 1 trained teckle will clear the roe out of a block of woodland with no problem.Yet if we do not get to grips with Muntjac spread and numbers - The government will think of things far more horrific .
A correctly loaded shotgun is very effective and is very useful for coming to terms with a small animal like a muntjac especially when the two hardest bits of stalking these deer is brambles and the fact that they are forever moving, with a broadside shot at a truly steady hart lung hit being perhaps the rarity .
Problem of the past imho was in-experience placement and inappropriate ammo inside . A proper heavy load and a red dot sight with a pump or semi auto ? Well its a lot better than grandads 2 1/2" of number 3

I'm sure you could do driven boar in the UK. The New hunting team I'm a member of hunts on about 400 acres. Driven hunt twice a year with 4 dog handlers covering the ground from different directions plus 10-12 guns. We start at 8.00 and its over by lunch time. On a good day the bag can get into double figurs. Then there is the village hunt where all the hunting teams in the surrounding area get together for a driven day on the boar. Both are a great days hunting with a BBQ lunch as well.
But heavan forbid that UK hunters could get together and enjoy a days hunting. Now lets hear the excuses why it would not work in the UK.
No problem. Don't invite him. How the Phuck is Prickham going to find out you are having a driven boar day unless you spread it all over the media. Its about arrangeing it between mates. Not all hunting needs to be put on the market and sold. Get some mates together and enjoy the day. Around the UK there are countless small pheasant syndicate who shoot every week of the season , how many of them are disturbed by Prickham and his like?Packham
Let me say i love the Swedish system! I did a range of UK talks with a Guide from Sweeden many years ago . I learned some fascinating stuff and had some proper crack , He saw a lot more cars than he had in his whole life ( his words) as we did a long trip down the M6October the 1st is the start of the shotgun season for roe here in Sweden. We are restricted to just two dogs. In smaller stands of woodland I am sure it would work but once you get over, say, 40 acres a handful of deer and boar will give two dogs a right runaround.October the 1st is the start of the shotgun season for roe here in Sweden. Sadly, the antis have a habit of putting trail cams in the most unlikely areas. In our part of very sleepy Suffolk, you would be surprised by the shenanigans that antis get up to - yes they are mainly targeting the Hunts but their surveillance and techniques are getting more sophisticated every year. Every time I pass a badger sett I look for a trail cam.No problem. Don't invite him. Your two pups would love a session at 'driving' deer SteveYou wouldn't need to invite it, Someone somewhere in this fair isle of ours would take umbrage, then P would stick his oar in.
You only need to look at the hoops to go through to shoot a few corvids these days.
