Using a fridge as a chiller?

I use a second hand tall larger fridge. Cheap!
Fitted a fan from bushwear. Easy!

It is in the garage and I struggle with the temperature regulation. Even on the lowest setting of the dial it cools down to -1 deg C. Measured this using a good quality digital probe.
As the thermostatic isn't located directly inside the fridge and the dial is probably not very acurate I've just ordered a cheapo 'Digital temperature controller' off Amazon.
I've used one of these before when I built a warming box for honey when it crystalises (Shouldn't be heated over 40 DegC) They are cheap and pretty acurate.

If you have access to old computers you could use a fan from there. The bushwear unit is basically a modified computer fan anyway.
Just be careful with your voltages if you go this way. Computer fans are generatlly 12v and you can opt for the below controller usually in 12v, 24v or 230v models.

I deally I would like a decent drinks fridge but even second hand on eaby these go for a pretty packet!
Post some pic of what you end up with. Would be good to see.

+1 for Beko fridges and freezers. We have found out the hard way that not all fridges and freezers can cope with working in an un-heated garage whereas Beko gurantee it. I use their large upright larder fridge and have just managed (ratchet strap) to get 2 Sika or 2 roe and a muntie in. Comfortably takes 2 roe :thumb: Have 3 of their freezers running in the garage too, one for venison and 2 for household food. Found them to be very economical.

Sorry to bring up such an old post. I have a larder fridge ive converted myself for deer. I havnt fitted a fan, will this be a help? If so any recomendations on a fan or kit to buy, be nice to be able to wire it into the fridge wiring rather than seperate or battery powered.

Also i struggle with the internal temp fluctuating massively from 0°c upto 10°c on times! Hence i dont trust it to hang a deer for long. But it does mean i dont have to skin an butcher a deer the same night ive shot it so still a big help

I am using a former Coca Cola fridge (£75 on eBay) and have found the following over two years of use:

1. Keep the drain hole clear
2. Use a drip tray to catch any blood
3. Keep the door shut
4. Wet deer go mouldy quicker
5. A fan (mine is built in) helps

And finally, consider using the rails on the inside of the fridge as opposed to drilling holes in the walls of the cabinet. I simply measured up some steel brackets and slid then in on the rails. It will hold x1 Fallow or two Roe Muntjac.

The whole think pulls out and fits in the dishwasher for cleaning 👍.

Your controller is a Danfoss No1 fridge controller.
Danfoss do three. Fridge, fridge freezer, freezer.
Available from Ebay, but be carefull you buy the correct one. Make sure its a fridge controller I sometimes see them advertised as a refrigeration controller, which generally means the guy selling it doesn't know what he is selling.
I hope that helps, really easy to change 3 wires put them back on the new one where they were on the old one and a capillary tube just pull the old one out and push the new one back where the old one came from
